Floyd Mayweather is a pioneer in the sport. It cannot be denied that his achievements both, inside and outside the square ring have been unprecedented. For many, he is a role model. As a matter of fact, many professional boxers have publicly lauded the undefeated fighter for what he has given to the sport. Like any other sport, many athletes would want to be like their legends. Mayweather is not just any other Hall of Famer. He is an exception amongst exceptions. Never in a fight has been knocked down let alone been knocked out. His defensive skills are impeccable.
In an interview, Jeff Mayweather, uncle of Floyd Mayweather, was asked about which fighter of today’s generation closely resembles Mayweather. To which he stated, “I would probably say, Shakur Stevenson. In terms of his ability to not get hit. Devin is pretty close. Gervonta does his thing but he does his thing.”
One may find that answer quite surprising as both Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis are above Stevenson in ranking. Though, it can be argued that in 20 pro fights, Stevenson has looked unbeatable. Not to mention, he is not a massive knockout artist like the 50-0 fighter. His defensive skills are impeccable just like Mayweather in his professional career.
