Did Javon Walton make the right call by pulling out, or should he have pushed through?

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned—a lesson 18-year-old boxing prospect Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton recently learned. Known for his role in HBO Max’s hit series Euphoria and as one of the rising stars in Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions, Walton found himself in a tough spot when he had to withdraw from the highly anticipated Most Valuable Prospects 8 card, scheduled for September 6th at the Caribe Royale resort in Orlando, Florida.

You see, the Atlanta, Georgia native was supposed to fight in a four-round, junior lightweight bout against Erik Hanley on the undercard of Cuban prospect Kevin Brown and seasoned Puerto Rican contender John Bauza. However, while appearing in a clip shared on X by his promoter MV Promotions, ‘Wanna’ Walton revealed his recent struggles with health have rendered him unfit to fight.

Addressing the disappointing update about his withdrawal from the bout, Walton revealed, “I am not medically fit to fight. I spent the last four nights in the hospital and I’m still recovering from a very bad infection that I have.” In fact, according to Walton, things could have been a lot worse had it not been for the antibiotics that he is currently on.

The 18-year-old further added that the infection is not something recent, rather he has been dealing with it for the past few months, but as the fight date came closer and closer he realized he won’t be able to “work through it anymore.” Expressing his anguish over not being able to deliver the fight he promised to his fans, Walton shared a direct message to his opponent.

“I kinda of just wanna give an apology to my opponent,” Walton said. “I wanna apologize to everybody who bought tickets, but I’ll make a strong comeback very soon and I’m still gonna try to attend.” While Walton takes a much-needed break to recover from his health issues, the question is, what does the Most Valuable Prospects 8 card look like now?
