Jaron Ennis is set to receive a hefty windfall. He has made smart choices after smart choices, but signing with Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom this month has ensured he leaves the arena with loaded pockets next time. Matchroom is banking their faith in the American boxer as they shelled out $3.9 million to win his purse bid against Cody Crowley. So, how much will the champion pocket?
‘Boot’ and Crowley, at 22-0, had failed to broker talks and come to terms for the IBF welterweight title fight. Even after repeated negotiations and multiple date extensions to agree terms and a purse split, they both didn’t waver. IBF then ordered the purse bid, where promoters submit their bids to promote the fight and the fighters are awarded a purse split from the bid. It seems the IBF champion will have his first homecoming since knocking out Raymond Serrano in 2018.

The British promoter expressed his ecstasy about winning his new signee’s purse bid. He outlined his plans and said, “We won the big purse bid today. So we are going to bring Boots home to Philadelphia.” Moreover, he disclosed that an announcement about the venue and a confirmed date would soon follow. “I am absolutely over the moon on being able to deliver that for Jaron,” Hearn added.
A fight with Crowley will mark Boots’ first IBF title defense, as he was elevated to champion in November after the IBF stripped Terence Crawford of the title. With both ‘Bud’ and Errol Spence Jr. set to build a new life at 154, Hearn expects him to collect more belts in the welterweight division. However, the Philadelphia native might finally give fans a fight they have craved for a long time. How? HE Turki Alalshikh has specified his desire to step in.

A dream fight on the horizon for ‘Boots’
HE Turki Alalshikh wants to match Ennis against Crawford later this year. Michael Benson broke this news recently. But how does Hearn see Ennis fighting Crawford now? He believes his new signee can do it.
“He’s [Jaron Ennis] the best welterweight in the world… I believe ‘Boots’ will be undisputed at 147 if we can make it happen. And at 154. I think he can beat Terence Crawford,” Hearn declared. It remains to be seen whether a fight will materialize, as Crawford has shown no interest in fighting Ennis.
