Ahead of the upcoming fight against Jake Paul on July 20th, on Overdogs Podcast, Mike Perry made some huge statements! Intending to punish Paul in the ring, the current BKFC fighter claimed he would put so much pressure on ‘The Problem Child’ that Jake would have to take a knee and beg for mercy in an arena full of fans. So, certainly, there are a lot of expectations from Perry now. However, when one learns about a sparring session Jake and Mike had in the past, one cannot help but doubt the former UFC fighter.

Since Jake Paul is facing Mike Perry before the match against Mike Tyson in November, there are several risks. Given Jake gets seriously injured against prime Perry, the Mike Tyson event just may end in smoke resulting in Paul missing out on the biggest payday of his career. However, per what Paul’s trainer BJ Flores revealed, the win against Perry might be a cakewalk for Jake Paul.

According to BJ Flores, ahead of Paul’s first fight against Tyron Woodley, Perry and Jake sparred for five rounds. “Mike is as tough as a nail, transitioning from UFC at that point. But Jake got the better of him every round clearly. And Mike took some big shots,” said Flores, boasting of Paul’s skills. So, what does he expect from Paul vs. Perry?

I just don’t know how he’s going to be able to stand up to Jake with 10-ounce gloves and no headgear. I think if Mike Perry is aggressive, it’s a very very short night. I don’t see how he stands there with Jake. I think it could be round 1, it could be round 2,” Flores added predicting Paul vs. Perry.

To be frank, one cannot overlook Flores’ statements completely because Mike Perry has yet to display commendable boxing.

Mike Perry’s boxing may not be sufficient to stop Jake Paul

When Mike Perry was in the UFC, he did not rely significantly on his boxing. Like most MMA fighters, he would rather maintain a stance that would allow him to defend takedowns and land some good kicks. Because of that Perry could afford to stay on the periphery. And for the same reason, we did not see him closing in on the distance very often with his punches either. For example, one can revisit the losses against Geoff Neal and Donald Cerrone.

Even in his BKFC fights, Perry did not exhibit accurate punching. With no head movement, he would get caught and bleed. However, as Flores has understood Perry is certainly a fighter as “tough as hell” because he certainly has endurance. But, whether or not he can finish Jake Paul remains a question.
