Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson—Is this the fight boxing needs or just a circus act?

The return of Mike Tyson to the squared circle will be a blockbuster event. It’s a rare occasion when the current generation will witness the American fighter pulling thunderous punches and showcasing his skills live. Heavy-handed punches and power might be the reason he can stand stall against Jake Paul. The crowd will be on its toes, cheering and throwing its weight behind the two, and it seems it could be an affair of a packed-up stadium. But that’s not it. The fight is mulling over a drastic step for a fight of this magnitude.

Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, will have a go at each other on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in a Netflix event. The fight already has all the markings of a successful event, with a deep undercard only adding to its charm. So, it didn’t shock fans when an update on the Tyson vs. Paul fight’s ticket sales came to light. MMAFighting’s Damon Martin turned to his X handle and shared an image of the current ticket sales for the fight. Apart from some patches of blue, it was largely grey, suggesting the sold-out seats even two months before the fight.

In addition, the journalist referenced Paul, at 10-1, and his recent remarks to TMZ about the fight not having a backup fighter. The post read, “Current look at ticket sales for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson on Nov. 15 at AT&T Stadium. Paul told TMZ he’s confident the fight is happening and there’s no backup for Tyson this time around.”

Interestingly, ‘The Problem Child’ dismissed the concerns over his opponent’s health in a conversation with TMZ. He also disclosed how the former world champion was feeling better. Paul said, “I don’t have concern. He’s [Mike Tyson] doing great. He’s super healthy behind the scenes and feeling great. So that’s what we are focusing on and there is not a back-up currently.”

The boxing community is worried about ‘Iron Mike’ and his ability to cope with the vagaries of a pro-fight at this age. But if his sparring partner, Joe Egan, is to be believed, Tyson still has what it takes to hurt his opponent.

Egan, in a conversation with TalkSPORT, heaped praise on Paul for taking on a fight with Tyson. However, he believed Tyson wouldn’t go full throttle on him. He declared, “You’ve got to admire him [Jake Paul] for getting in the ring with Mike Tyson. But I don’t think Mike will go full force on him. I don’t believe that because if Mike went full force on Jake Paul, he could seriously hurt him. Never mind about the age.”

It remains to be seen whether Paul vs. Tyson will have a backup fighter because it’s an unwritten rule to have one to cover any unexpected incidents and last-minute pullouts. Given Tyson’s health concerns, it won’t be long before they pick one.
