Jake Paul had a splendid 2024, as his popularity went off the charts and he made a huge splash in the boxing world. The fight with Mike Tyson is a testament to his growing stature in the boxing world, and it seems the fight on Netflix has left other notable names, such as Beyonce and Travis Kelce, in the dust.
The Most Valuable Promotions took to their social media handles and shared an interesting infographic. The post listed the top 5 most streamed US sports events of 2024. As expected, the NFL bouts dominated the rankings. Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs games against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas bagged the 5th spot on the list with almost 30 million live viewers. The same-day game of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans also had similar numbers but received the number 4 slot on the list.
The number three slot belongs to Beyonce, who performed at the Christmas halftime show along with her daughter Blue Ivy. The performance grabbed the attention of American fans during the Ravens vs. Texans game and blew off the charts. However, topping the American singer’s performance is Amanda Serrano. The Puerto Rican fighter’s rematch with Katie Taylor made waves among the fans, as almost $74 million live viewers watched her attempt at revenge and fight for the undisputed lightweight title.

However, you can say Paul vs. Tyson grabbed the most eyeballs this year when they put on a show for the fans. ‘The Problem Child’s pre-fight shenanigans, such as trolling by wearing a body suit, and ‘Iron Mike’s loyal fan base pulled in 108 million live viewers. The MVP also clarified how the fight was only distributed on Netflix, whereas NFL games viewership included mobile viewership on NFL+ and CBS’ broadcast channels in select cities during the games. So, it makes the Paul vs. Tyson numbers even more impressive.
Interestingly, recently Netflix’s CCO disclosed how the Paull vs. Tyson fight helped them prepare them ahead of the NFL’s Christmas games, which has become a holiday fest for the streaming company. Why? They continue to shatter records and rack up huge live audiences during Christmas NFL games, even surpassing the NBA.

The fans still remember how the Paull vs. Tyson fight became the talk of the internet as fans witnessed streaming issues. The internet was flooded with complaints about how the stream interrupted, and they continued to face struggles as record numbers watched the fight. This debacle helped Netflix prepare better for the Christmas NFL games, which included a performance from Beyonce, making it a sure-shot audience-puller schedule.
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, said, “We expected a big number, for sure. It was a big number. But again, you don’t know, and you can’t learn these things until you do them. So, you take a big swing. Our teams and our engineers are amazing. Moved super quickly and stabilized it. And many of the members had it back up and running pretty quickly. But we learn from those things.”
Netflix did hit a snag during these games on Christmas, but the American company could tackle it down because of their experience with the Paul vs. Tyson fight experience. Netflix’s foray into live sports is changing the sports landscape, and we can expect them to venture more into boxing, too. It remains to be seen whether Paul will feature on those cards or not.
