Right after the shocking announcement of Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, criticism started rolling in for the fight. Boxing legend Mike Tyson is stepping back into the ring, this time to face YouTube star Jake Paul in a highly anticipated bout. The fight, scheduled for July 20th in Texas, will be streamed live on Netflix. Details regarding whether it will be a sanctioned professional fight or an exhibition haven’t been announced yet.
This matchup pits the 27-year-old Paul, fresh off his 10th professional victory, against the 57-year-old Tyson, who last boxed professionally in 2005. Tyson did participate in an exhibition bout in 2020, but this upcoming fight promises to be a spectacle for fans regardless of the official classification. However, Eddie Hearn thought about it differently. Paul’s manager had a response to his criticism.

The upcoming boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has generated mixed reactions. Hardcore boxing fans, like promoter Eddie Hearn, have expressed concern about the matchup. Hearn acknowledges the fight’s potential to draw a large audience due to Tyson’s legendary status. However, he finds it disheartening to see a near 60-year-old Tyson step back into the ring against a much younger opponent. This sentiment highlights the potential safety risks associated with such an exhibition, thus raising concerns.
Jake Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian responds to Eddie Hearn saying it's "incredibly sad" that Jake is fighting Mike Tyson: "It's incredibly ironic and, as usual, hypocritical of Eddie Hearn to talk negatively about another event. Eddie was standing between Manny Pacquiao, a very…

Hearn said, “I’m the wrong person to ask because I love boxing, so for me, it’s incredibly sad.” Well, when Nakisa Bidarian got to know about this interview, he instantly replied, “It’s incredibly ironic and, as usual, hypocritical of Eddie Hearn to talk negatively about another event. Eddie was standing between Manny Pacquiao, a very small-statured 45-year-old man, and his next opponent, a 27-year-old Matchroom fighter who has had issues getting licensed in the UK to box again.”
What Bidarian was referencing was Pacquiao facing off against Conor Benn in Saudi Arabia following the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou weigh-in in the presence of Eddie Hearn. Both fighters want to sign the contract and expect to fight in Saudi Arabia. As of now, nothing is set in stone.
Furthermore, Bidarian stated, “It’s incredibly sad. He spends more time speaking about other people’s business than he does tending his own.”
The MVP head honcho had a prompt response to Hearn’s disapproval of the fight. However, what will he say to Oscar De La Hoya who also shared a similar sentiment?

Boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya has weighed in on the buzz surrounding the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight. While De La Hoya acknowledges the fight’s commercial potential, he questions its legitimacy within the context of Paul’s boxing career. De La Hoya suggests that facing a nearly 60-year-old Tyson, though likely profitable, doesn’t necessarily signify Paul’s commitment to serious boxing competition.
De La Hoya stated, “Jake Paul, you say you want to be a world champion, you say you want to take this sport serious — then take it serious. What is this? This is not a popularity contest. I’m actually praising Jake Paul to take this serious because I really truly feel if he fights the right fights and takes the right path to that world title, he can actually get there.”
