Are the rumored PPV buys for Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry a joke or a sign of boxing's decline?

The Jake Paul vs Mike Perry pay-per-view fight price tag was astronomically high. The fight, showcased on DAZN, charged £19.99 from the UK audience, and $64.99 for fans on the other side of the ocean! But did it live up to the hype? ‘The Problem Child’ delivered a boxing clinic on the BKFC ‘King of Violence’ title holder and knocked him out in the sixth round. It was barely a tough contest for the ‘Problem Child’ as he won every round before the knockout.

On the other hand, Jake Paul’s bitter rival, KSI, found the perfect excuse to discredit Jake Paul’s performance. “Congrats weight bully,” KSI wrote on X, alluding to the fact that the cruiserweight contender looked bigger than Perry on fight night, who normally competes at 170 pounds. Now, rumors are trickling in about the fight’s low PPV buys. Thus, it was inevitable that KSI picked up on the hearsay and ran with it.

“Fear No Man” event, a PPV nightmare?

According to an unofficial X account @ksinews_, the Jake Paul vs Mike Perry PPV event reportedly garnered under 67k total global PPV buys, which is poor compared to the industry standards. Responding to this piece of information circulating on social media, ‘The Nightmare’ commented gleefully, “Ain’t no way lol”

Furthermore, a casual boxing fan inquired if the alleged PPV numbers were below par. To this, KSI responded with, “That’s terrible lol”. At this point, it is unverified information as no reputed boxing reporter or media establishment has reported on the ‘Fear No Man’ event’s PPV buys.

Previously, the two YouTubers had engaged in a war of words over PPV numbers in boxing matches. KSI claimed that his fight against rapper Swarmz and professional boxer Luis Alcaraz on the same night did a “huge amount” in terms of PPV buys than Jake Paul’s rematch against Tyron Woodley. “We beat your last fight [a rematch with Woodley] by a HUGE amount ppv wise. Even with your team trying hard to sabotage the event and me having to fight 2 randoms last minute. We are not the same,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Jake Paul had a dig at KSI after it was reported that the Ohio native’s fight against former UFC fighter Nate Diaz got an impressive 500k PPV buys. “He doesn’t sell good pay-per-views. And you look at the views of all his last three fights, he uploads them. Combined, they’re like my last fight. Because people don’t really care. He’s a big star in the UK, but he doesn’t move anything in the U.S. and he doesn’t sell a lot of pay-per-views. He sells like 100,000,” he claimed.

The constant battle of one-upping each other on social media will continue until the two internet sensations get into the ring and settle it once and for all. But, for Paul, that ship has sailed as he mocked KSI’s bizarre upcoming fight.

A bad “joke”?

The boxing community raised questions after the British YouTuber agreed to fight social media celebrity Slim Albaher and former MMA contender Anthony Taylor in a bizarre 1 vs. 2 “tag-team” boxing match. Paul wasn’t an exception as he questioned if JJ took the sport seriously. On that note, he called him a “joke”.

“He has been a joke in the sport since day one. I said before the Gib fight that he would never fight me. And that still holds true. He is doing this WWE tag team boxing and that’s not what I am here to do. I am here to become a world champion,” Paul said in an interview with FightHype.

With the Mike Perry fight done and dusted, he is looking forward to the Mike Tyson fight. The fight which was supposed to happen on July 20, has been rescheduled to November 15 due to a medical scare triggered by an ulcer flareup during a cross-country flight. However, if he harbors dreams of becoming a world champion, he must start fighting elite boxers close to his age.
