Jake Paul has fought against some of the best fighters the combat sports world has to offer, even though most of them may not be boxers in their prime. In November 2024, the 27-year-old fought against the youngest heavyweight champion in history, Mike Tyson. Many considered the bout to be his biggest in terms of popularity and monetary success. However, the fight itself was a major letdown.

Not only did El Gallo completely dominate Tyson, but the age disparity was utterly obvious, as the 58-year-old Tyson had no answer against Paul’s youth. As The Problem Child quite easily defeated The Baddest Man On The Planet, a question needs to be asked: How hard did Mike Tyson hit? And was he the hardest puncher Jake Paul has faced in his 12-fight career?

Timing is the key, says Jake Paul

While speaking with Akin “Ak” Reyes and Barak Bess on the first episode of the Ring Champs podcast on All the Smoke Fight, Paul was asked to pick the hardest puncher he ever faced. Without wasting a moment, the Ohio native replied, “Probably Tommy.” However, the answer is not as simple.

According to Paul, Tommy Fury‘s timing was far more troublesome than just his raw power, which made his punches seem far more effective than they were. “I think more so, his timing right. I think timing is more important than anything,” admitted Jake Paul. The Problem Child accepted that while fighters like Tyron Woodley and Mike Tyson had more raw power, “Tommy had better timing and like placement of punches. So yeah, probably Tommy,” declared Jake Paul confidently.

What’s your perspective on:

Would a young Mike Tyson have ended Jake Paul's boxing career before it even started?

Have an interesting take?

Given the fact that Tommy Fury is the only fighter who has beaten the 27-year-old yet and Mike Tyson only managed to land 18 punches during their eight-round fight, Jake Paul’s admission seems valid. Furthermore, this is not the first time that ‘El Gallo’ has chosen Tommy Fury over the former world champion as his toughest opponent.

Lucky to avoid prime Mike Tyson

A few hours after his controversial November 15 bout, Paul sat down with his friends and family for a conversation on BS w/ Jake Paul. The 11-1 boxer was blunt and shared his unfiltered opinion on his career and answered various questions, including, “Who is the most powerful you’ve felt in a fight?”

While his friends and family expected the answer to be Mike Tyson, Paul surprised everyone by picking Tyson Fury’s half-brother. However, he once again explained that things were not that simple and “Tommy was a little tricky,” as his punches were hard to track, making him far more difficult than Tyson, who had a straightforward approach.

“Mike’s punches, I could see coming. He was strong, but he didn’t land anything clean. So, I honestly didn’t feel Mike Tyson’s full power,” confessed Paul as he considers himself lucky because “you don’t want to.”

Well, there you have it, the hardest puncher and the toughest fighter that Jake Paul has ever faced. Considering the fact that Mike Tyson was 58 when he fought Jake Paul and Tommy Fury was 23, it’s not really an apples-to-apples comparison. In all fairness, if Jake Paul were to face a 20-year-old Mike Tyson, it could very well have ended his journey in boxing, don’t you think? Anyone remember Michael Spinks?
