With over 108 million viewers tuning in on television and 72,000 spectators witnessing it live at AT&T Stadium, the Jake Paul–Mike Tyson event was undeniably one of 2024’s most talked-about sporting events. Cementing its place in history, the November 15 showdown broke the gate record for a boxing or MMA event outside Las Vegas.
Despite its overwhelming success, the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson attracted its share of skepticism. The eight-round special rules bout ended in a unanimous victory for ‘The Problem Child’. However, whispers questioning the fight’s authenticity began circulating shortly afterward. Paul and his team promptly released an official statement denying any allegations of match-fixing. But the speculations refuse to die down, keeping the narrative alive even weeks after the event.
Marvin Bernard, known to most as Tony Yayo, joined DJ Vlad for an interview. Taking up the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson showdown, Vlad asked the well-known rapper who he had bet his money on. Mike Tyson—Yayo replied without blinking eyes.

But the rapper added the fight left him confused. “I just didn’t know what the f**k was going on. Like, I don’t know, it’s like when you see Tyson train, he can f**king kill you, and then, you know, when he got in the ring, it just looked, I don’t know, shaky,” shared the former G-Unit member. Perhaps Yayo’s bewilderment emanates from the fact that despite the way he lost, Mike Tyson has and will always remain his hero.
Like Yayo and many others, the former heavyweight champion also came from humble origins. So to watch him struggle in the ring was disheartening. But at the same time, the rapper praised Jake Paul for his dedication and growing influence in the boxing world. He highlighted how ‘The Problem Child’s stakes have risen to the level where even established champions started calling him out.
DJ Vlad probed if Tony Yayo could guess the number of punches Tyson connected in the match. The rapper couldn’t provide an answer. It was eighteen punches in total—basically two punches per round, told the host.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: A Spectacle Marred by Questions
Tony Yayo once again reiterated the stark difference between Tyson’s training videos and his performance in the ring. He said, “People were saying they thought it was like a money grab. Jake Paul, I’m not saying it either. You know what I mean, because watch him train, then watch him in the ring; it’s a big difference.”

Then he highlighted the rumors on the streets. “Listen, the streets are saying they thought it was a money grab, ’cause when you see that motherf**ker train, he looks like the same motherf**ker from Brownsville,” said Tony Yayo, further adding, “So it looked like, Yo, they gave, they must have given, you know how the streets are, cause the homies, they be like, ‘No man. Jake Paul gave that motherf**ker an extra two million, man’.”
That’s just one side of the story. A few others gave the Paul-Tyson fight the benefit of the doubt. However, they felt that perhaps the young YouTuber-turned-boxer went easy on the 58-year-old opponent.
