Jake Paul became a professional boxer almost 4 years ago and has made a hell of a career out of it. ‘The Problem Child’ just became one of the highest-paid boxers in the world for his controversial yet historic fight with Mike Tyson.

However, there is one blip in his professional record that he would like to erase as soon as possible. In 2023, the 11-1 boxer lost the first and only match of his professional career against Tommy Fury via a split decision. Even though Paul lost the match, it was a close fight. The work put in by ‘El Gallo’ was visible in the ring as he went toe-to-toe with the Manchester native. During the lead-up to the fight, Paul indulged himself in a brutal training camp where he even suffered a bleeding nose during a sparring session.

Many fans wanted to know the culprit who left the former YouTuber bloody right before his big fight. Almost a year after the fight, the 19-2-1 light heavyweight professional boxer Kalvin Henderson came forward and claimed that he was behind the incident while also blaming Jake Paul’s coach.

Was Jake Paul sabotaged by his team?

In a conversation with FightHype, Henderson reminisced about his time in El Gallo’s camp. “It was an amazing experience. Not sparring him, but just the whole experience of going to the being in Middle East man. The culture, the gym, everything that was cool man,” recounted Henderson, with a huge smile on his face.

‘Hot Sauce’ then claimed that when he was approached to be Jake Paul’s sparring partner, he knew that “I was light years above him, skill and experience wise,” and was ready to adjust according to the 27-year-old’s novice skills. “I went into it with the mindset of like almost like a good training partner where if he’s here I’m’ma stay right here and push him,” claimed Henderson.

At that time, Jake Paul had appointed Theotrice Chambers, J’Leon Love, and Larry Wade as his coaches. Kalvin Henderson recalled how Paul’s team wanted him to emulate Tommy Fury and his style of boxing. And he obliged. But things started to shift when one out of his three coaches claimed that Henderson was not pushing El Gallo enough. “Jake had three coaches at the time. One of his coaches was like ‘What are you doing. man? We need you to push him, man?'” claimed Henderson, revealing that the coaching staff had no clear synergy and strategy amongst them. As all three of them were directing him differently.

As the Fort Worth native did not want to lose his paycheck, he started sparring harder. While Henderson never revealed which coach started bugging him, he claimed that following his direction was like worst mistake of his career.

The worst mistake of his life

The 34-year-old claimed that even though he started sparring harder, one of Jake Paul’s coaches called him a sucker. “One of his coaches was like, ‘I ain’t gonna lie you out here looking like a sucker’.” This insult hurt Henderson a bit and kept him up the whole night before he decided to change his method completely and go full throttle.

The next day, “I just walked straight to him and dogged him out man. That’s the video that got that leaked by his team with the bloody nose and the blood everywhere,” revealed Henderson, referring to the viral nosebleed video of Jake Paul before Tommy Fury fight.

However, that aggression proved costly to Henderson. “Sad to say, that’s the last time I spar Mr. Paul,” confessed the light heavyweight contender. He was flown back to his home and it cost him a significant paycheck. Henderson believes that if he was allowed to continue the sparring session his way, Jake Paul might not have lost to Tommy Fury.

However, neither ‘The Problem Child’ nor Kalvin Henderson can do anything about it now and it is a mark that will always remain on Paul’s record. Let us know your thoughts down below.
