“Jake [Paul’s] New Opponent”: Fans Demand Mike Tyson Trilogy as 61-YO Evander Holyfield’s Recent Training Clip Breaks the Internet

Back in 1997, something happened during a boxing match, which still sends shivers down the spines of people who see it. Heavyweight boxers Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield went toe-to-toe against each other for their second encounter inside the squared circle. The first one Tyson lost. During round three of their second match, a furious and frustrated Tyson sunk his teeth and ripped off a portion of Holyfield’s right ear, leaving him bleeding and in gruesome pain. Almost 27 years later, it is still regarded as one of the most infamous chapters in boxing history. 

Nearly two decades after his retirement, Mike Tyson was supposed to grace the ring on July 20 opposite Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. However, the match has now been postponed.    The 58-year-old suffered an ulcer flare-up, which eventually forced his doctors to step in and issue an ultimatum against his return to training. The fate of the massive Netflix event now looks bleak. In the midst of all this Holyfield posted a video of himself on Instagram slugging hard on a punching bag. Fans immediately cluttered the comments section of the post suggesting potential matchup options for the Real Deal.

Is Evander Holyfield ready for a trilogy at the age of 61? 

Evander Holyfield is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers the world has ever seen. Despite having retired 10 years ago, the four-time world heavyweight champion nevertheless maintains a sizable following on Instagram, with 1.2 million followers. The 61-year-old posted the video with the caption, “If you don’t take no chances, then you’re not a performer. Performers always take chances.”

After looking at his recent training video, his fans demanded a comeback from the former champ in a similar vein to Mike Tyson’s. However, is he truly fit to fight in a boxing ring again? The world is well aware of what happened between Tyson and Holyfield in their rematch. The fight swiftly veered beyond the bounds of a boxing bout and became a grudge match. If at all the trilogy fight happens, is it going to be a shot at retribution? Excited about the prospect of Tyson and Holyfield facing each other once again, one fan wrote, “He’s coming back to make history once again.” Another comment similarly read, “Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield Part 2.” Someone else reiterated the same sentiment: “Tyson evander 3.”

One fan even brought in former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis into the conversation. They said, “Can u and mike have the last man standing fight pls anyone that win will fight Lenox Luis”

As the fight between Tyson and Paul remains postponed, a boxing enthusiast suggested the ‘Real Deal’ to be Paul’s new opponent. They wrote, “Jakes new opponent.” While another Instagram user simply praised Holyfield for his exceptional physique. They remarked, “The Real Deal looking better than men half his age.”

Despite all the remarks made by fans, there is very little to no chance that Tyson and Holyfield will fight again. Both fighters have come a long way and moved on from their bloody past. The two even joined hands in 2022 and used their infamous fight as a marketing strategy to sell Tyson’s edible ear-shaped gummies.
