The prospect of a fight between Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez is quite intriguing. The current unified super middleweight champion taking on a former YouTuber who does not have even one legit fight under his belt is absurd to think of. Yet, we are in a reality where the fight is not only being discussed but the rumors of it actually happening are rampant on social media.

Whether the fight will take place or not is unimportant at the moment. But the eyeballs it has attracted only through rumors is something quite unreal. This just goes to show how big of a showman Jake Paul really is. Amidst the chaos, ShowBizz The Adult weighed in on the matter and shared his insights.

Is it all about the money?

The boxing commentator, while discussing the rumored fight, acknowledged how the potential fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo is exponentially bigger than the fight against Jake Paul. And because of that, according to ShowBizz, ‘Cinnamon’ needs an opponent in May who doesn’t pose a threat to his reputation with an upset. “The big fight is the Terence Crawford versus Canelo. Reasonably, Canelo is the heavy favorite in that fight, but that’s the big fight so you don’t want that fight threatened,” explained the YouTuber.

The fight against Jake Paul might be the safest bet for Canelo Alvarez in May, as the former is “not a threat at all.” Not only that, ShowBizz mentioned how a fight against Paul will make “probably more money than,” the Crawford fight. “That’s the world we’re in. What am I going to do say?” The popular content creator exclaimed that no matter how much people criticize the fight, the Mexican star “could get a huge bag fighting Jake Paul because the people gonna show up.” So, since Canelo stands to make more money against Jake Paul than against Crawford, with little-to-no threat for the September mega bout, it is a fight, in all practicality, that Canelo should take, advised the commentator.

According to ShowBizz, the hate people have against Jake Paul will drag them to the arena. “We are in a world where people want to gather to hate s**t, the hate of that fight will make people gather.” The hate sentiment against The Problem Child has intensely elevated since the Mike Tyson bout, ShowBizz posited. “There are some people who will probably see Canelo Alvarez as a superhero for what Jake Paul did to Mike Tyson,” proclaimed the YouTuber while defending the rumored fight.

ShowBizz The Adult is not the only boxing insider who has shared his opinion on this rumored Jake Paul vs. Canelo Alvarez fight. On a recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show, the MMA journalist also offered his perspective.

Canelo Alvarez’s most monumental year yet

Is Jake Paul the ultimate payday for Canelo, or just a sideshow in boxing history?

During his show, Helwani spoke on the rumored fight and admired ‘Cinnamon’s’ lineup. However, the MMA journalist focused less on the competition and more on how much the Guadalajara native would earn if both fights happened in the same year. Several rumors suggest that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has accepted the unified super middleweight champion’s demand for a $150 million payday to face Crawford. On the other hand, if Jake Paul can lure Canelo Alvarez to a fight, undoubtedly the payday needs to be huge.

“There are some reports now coming out that Canelo [vs.] Jake Paul is a thing in May, as well. Which, by the way, what a freaking year for Canelo Alvarez, holy s***. Those are two gigantic paydays… these are two massive things,” Helwani said while looking at both fights. However, Helwani denied commenting on the authenticity of the rumors and took the reports at face value.

At this point, whether the fight happens in May 2025 or not, it does not matter. With the recent meltdown, both Paul and Canelo have gotten the idea that this fight will attract an audience and huge money. This gives them enough leverage to actually make the fight a reality.
