When you stand face-to-face with the world’s most ferocious puncher, you plunge into varied emotions but calmness. Jake Paul also went through a similar ordeal when he faced his icon, Mike Tyson, at the New York press conference. But he stood unfazed in the face of the baddest man on the planet.
‘The Problem Child’ and ‘Iron Mike’ are set to collide on July 20 at the AT&T Center in Arlington, as both will stake their professional records on the line. The New York press conference gave boxing fans a first look at how the two boxers stack up. While the former heavyweight boxer was all smiles, Paul sized up his opponent. He then turned to his X handle as he admitted how he gauged up the man, who had turned heavyweights into dust during his heydays.
The 27-year-old wrote, “Felt nothing.” Later on, he also thanked Tyson for accepting the challenge from him. Paul also revealed how Tyson pushed for a professionally sanctioned fight instead of an exhibition.

Another highlight from the press conference remained Tyson’s confession about his health condition. He had declared that his body was “sh*t” and he was feeling “sore.” Meanwhile, Paul appeared beefed up and carried a frame close to 230 pounds. However, he has been strategic about his weight in recent fights. The American influencer’s last two fights have come at cruiserweight, and now he looks to add more power and muscle.
There are concerns about Paul’s chin and his defensive shortcomings. Lennox Lewis has questioned his defensive prowess in the past. Therefore, Tyson’s fearsome reputation as a nasty power puncher and a knockout machine will prove a tough test for his untested chin. However, the 9-1 record holder put these doubts to rest as he oozed confidence in his boxing acumen.

The Cleveland native banked his faith in his skills as he emphasized his ability to take on Tyson’s punches. He also pointed out that he was a natural-born heavyweight and, as such, could go toe-to-toe with the Brooklyn native. He said, “I know I will be able to [take Mike Tyson’s punches]. I’m a natural-born heavyweight. This is what I was born to do—to move up into this weight class. And I’m going to show Mike who has more power.”
Paul also believed in his hard-hitting abilities, as he put himself above Tyson’s power. Despite the 30-year age gap, Paul is the underdog going into the fight. But he remains confident of shocking the world. Will he pull it off? It remains to be seen.
