Jake Paul did the unthinkable when he stood across from Mike Tyson and handed a beating to him. He left the arena with a win on the biggest night of his career. But the Problem Child also has regrets. He wanted a bit more, from the fight and from his opponent.

Paul, 27, met Tyson, 58, inside the squared circle and dominated every round. He threw a total of 278 punches, connecting 78 of those and securing the win by the scorecards of 80-72, 79-73 (x2) in his favor. But ‘Iron Mike’ only threw 97 punches in the fight, landing 18 of those. This made the fight lackluster, and if Jake Paul is to be believed, the blame could be painted on the former world champion.

Paul, 27, appeared on the IMPULSIVE podcast along with his older brother, Logan Paul. The WWE superstar asked him, “Are you happy with your performance in the fight? Are you happy with the way the fight went down?”

In response, Jake Paul admitted, “I wish he would have like put up a better fight.” Paul, at 11-1, continued, “So, then I could have like risen more and done more and like he was surviving. So that was the only thing I didn’t like.” Here, Logan agreeing with his brother, added, “So annoying when they don’t bring the fight to you.” And Jake replied, “Ya.”

Therefore, he believes he couldn’t seize the limelight because of the rusty fight. These comments mirror his post-fight statements too, where when asked about taking the foot off the gas, he confessed, “I wanted to give the fans a show. But I didn’t want to hurt someone who didn’t need to be hurt.” In addition, the Cleveland native claimed he had to carry the fight on his own, as the former heavyweight champion had failed to turn back the clock.

Jake Paul: carrying the Mike Tyson fight

The YouTuber-turned-prizefighter pointed out in the post-fight presser how he found himself in a difficult position as Mike Tyson failed to engage aggressively with him. He told the media, “There was a point where, you know, I was just like, okay, he’s not really engaging back. So, I don’t know if he’s tired or whatever. I could just tell, you know, his age was showing a little bit.”
