Julio Cesar Martinez has become the latest boxer to get himself in a fix for a PED abuse violation. The result? The Mexican champion has to serve nine months on the sidelines. That’s not it. Besides a harsh ruling from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the fans have showered brutal and scathing comments on him. What did they have to say?

However, the festivities soon turned sour as testing samples turned in positive results for three banned substances. Specifically, diuretics and masking agents. These can not only dilute doping agents in a drug test, but they can also prove helpful in cutting weight.

What’s more? Martinez, 29, avoided the hearing route as he preferred a settlement with the NSAC. The state commission imposed a fine of 15% on his $75,000 purse and also pushed him to enroll in a drug-testing program. Surely, this ruling will derail the 21-3 record holder’s career plans, as he had decided to relinquish his 112 titles and surmount a challenge at 115. But now he might have to wait for a while before he realizes his championship dreams.

IFL TV turned to their X handle and broke the news to the fans. They also disclosed that Martinez’s last fight had turned into a no-contest, overturning it from a win. A user referenced French soccer star, Paul Pogba, who received a 4-year ban after he tested positive for testosterone metabolites in his system. Drawing a parallel between the two, they declared, “But Pogba got a 4 year ban for football [laughing emoji].”

One boxing fan pointed out in surprise that it’s always the athletes who you least expect to get embroiled in controversy. They noted, “It’s always the ones you least expect.”

A fan hotly argued for the conduct of doping tests before fights. They were in favor of the cancellation of the fight after such a violation, as boxing remained a dangerous sport. They announced, “Why are tests done after fights? Do it before the fight. Get the result. Cancel the fight!!!! Every boxer is on PEDs all jacked to sh*t in a sport where someone can be killed.”

Similarly, another fan of the sweet science drew parallels with other sports, such as tennis and track and field, where authorities slapped athletes with harsh bans. Boxing remained an anomaly, despite the probability of someone dying in the ring.
