The buzz over Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk‘s bout was something boxing lovers hadn’t witnessed in a long time. After all, the Heavyweight division has been bereft of an undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis held the world titles from November 1999 to April 2000. But the boxing business claimed another victim as the talks to finalize a fight between the two burned up at the altar of the negotiation table. It’s been over five months, and Tyson Fury’s account floats in a vacuum for 2023.
Fury, who became a world champion for the second time by defeating Deontay Wilder in 2020, knocked out Dillian Whyte in April last year, retaining his belts. But a sudden retirement announcement in August left the boxing world stunned. However, the decision remained short-lived. The Mancunian staged a comeback against Derek Chisora on December 3. All the fans might recollect Fury calling out Usyk, who was watching the match from the ringside along with Joe Joyce.

Anthony Joshua bumped into the scene sparking the talks of an all-British fight. That being said, even discussions of a fourth match with Deontay Wilder were noised about. A battle with former Heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. was in plain sight. But, as it happened with others, this too ran out of gas. So what are the options left for Tyson Fury? Who could be the other probable contestants? Could former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou be his next opponent?
The world champion gave some insight into the course of action he took recently while speaking to a bunch of reporters in Australia. He is touring ‘Down Under,’ rooting for a close friend Joseph Parker, who fought Faiga Opelu on May 24. Incidentally, his presence kicked off whispers of a possible clash with Australian Heavyweight Demsey McKean. So their conversation picked up from the Haney–Lomachenko fight to the recent controversy surrounding UFC Heavyweight Jon Jones.
When asked, “As a money manager, you don’t always just want to come down under again and just show what you’re like?” Fury replied, “I just want to keep busy. Not far since December. It’s been what’s up five months ago. um, I’ve tried to fight umpteen times I’ve had no luck [on] lately. I sent a contract out yesterday to Joshua. I said come over, come back down to Usyk, and I set another contract out to Francis, so hopefully, we might hear some news very, very soon.“

With Joe Joyce invoking the rematch clause with Zhilei Zhang, even the two alternatives remain unavailable. So given what Tyson Fury mentioned, hopefully, fans might get to see what they have been longing for some time.
