Tyson Fury is one of the hottest attractions in boxing. “The Gypsy King” has won every major heavyweight title in the world. In a recent video, Fury showed off his belts, while belittling one of them.

“I’ve got that shit one (IBF belt) there as well. I hide it,” Fury said.

How did Tyson Fury lose his belts?

In 2015, Fury won The Ring Magazine, WBO, WBA, IBO & IBF titles when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in Germany. He outboxed Klitschko and won the bout via a unanimous decision.

After conquering Klitschko, Fury found himself in a dark place. He struggled with addictions and other issues that hindered him from performing. As a result, he was stripped of his titles one after the other.

IBF belt

The IBF belt was the first to leave because Fury agreed to fight Klitschko again instead of Vyacheslav Glazkov. It is worth noting that the second Klitschko fight never materialized.

IBO, WBO, and WBA titles

In July 2016, Fury’s failed drug test almost led to the stripping of his IBO, WBO, and WBA belts. However, he voluntarily vacated the titles before that.

“I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be lost in the ring, but I’m unable to defend at this time and I have taken the hard and emotional decision to now officially vacate my treasured world titles,” Fury told Hennessey Sports in 2016.

The Ring Magazine championship

Unable to defend The Ring Magazine championship before January 31, 2018, Fury was stripped of that title as well.

“The Ring Magazine would like to make it clear that this decision had not been taken lightly,” the publication announced on February 1, 2018. “The Ring championship belt is the closest representation to a lineal champion in the sport today, and Tyson Fury was extremely proud to be part of our heavyweight history.”

As of now, fellow British rival, Anthony Joshua holds the IBF, WBO, WBA, and IBO belts.

Last February, Fury won back the vacant Ring Magazine title in his battle against Deontay Wilder. He also captured the only belt he hadn’t won before, the WBC heavyweight championship. The Brit will face off against Wilder for the third time later this year. Should he win that bout, he will attempt to unify the titles in a match with Joshua in the future.
