WBA and IBF super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor is not underestimating his upcoming opponent, Apinun Khongsong. The pair will lock horns against each other this weekend, with Taylor’s WBA and IBF titles on the line.

Before the fight, Taylor is leading the odds. However, looking at Khongsong’s record and the nature of the sport, the champion doesn’t want to rule out the risks, especially when a title unification bout between him and Jose Ramirez is at stake.

If he loses this weekend, he might miss out on the matchup. That said, Josh Taylor is not worried about it, as his sole focus is on Apinun Khongsong at this point.

Josh Taylor understands the nerve of the sport

As per Taylor, Khongsong hasn’t made a huge name for himself in the sport. Thus, the upcoming fight can be a huge platform for the Thai to register himself amongst the A-listers. A title win against Josh Taylor will bring a lot of attention.

Speaking with the Boxing scene, Taylor said, “It’s very dangerous. It is his big chance to change his life, not only becoming world champion but unified world champion, he is getting the chance at three belts – the IBF, the WBA, and The Ring magazine. So it is a massive opportunity to really change his life.”

Apart from that, boxing has witnessed some major stunners in recent times. A single punch has changed the entire momentum and Taylor hasn’t missed taking note of it. The young champion added:

“It only takes one punch in boxing and you have seen that happen in recent history a couple of times. I’ve got my eyes firmly on the prize and that is Saturday, I’m not thinking about the next fight or what is happening next. It is all about Saturday, getting the job done, and getting the job done well.”

After this weekend, one of the clean records is going to blow off from the boxing community. No matter who wins, fans can expect a thriller on September 26.
