Is the pursuit of a championship worth the family sacrifices Tyson Fury makes? What's your take?

What is the price that you have to pay to be a champion? Well, training sessions take a toll on the body; defeats in the ring shatter you, but the sacrifice to stay away from family is the worst of it all. What about the family itself, that has to go through the emotional turmoil of watching someone punish themselves for something as strange as a championship title? Paris Fury explains it all.

Tyson Fury will fight it out with Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 to exact revenge and clinch the unified crown on the line. For that, he has already set up a training camp in Malta and will be away from his family and home in Morecambe. These long stretches of absence are pretty common if you have taken the route as a boxer. But if Paris, 34, is to be believed, it’s tough on the family when the Fury family lynchpin is away.

Paris explained the heavy situation and detailed her experience of being the wife of ‘Gypsy King’ in a conversation with IFL TV. She said, “People think it’s all glamour, but they don’t see the weeks on end when he’s gone, and I’m left to look after everything—kids, house, and all that comes with it. It’s not easy.”

She takes on the household’s reigns and fulfills all the roles and responsibilities that the British boxer would have if he were at home. But that’s not all. Paris also awaits his safe return home, and whenever he puts on a show for the fans, she joins her hands and prays for a relatively safer, injury-free fight.

Paris Fury: Sitting on the other side of the screen

Whenever Fury, 36, walks to the center of the boxing ring, Paris only has one expectation from him—to be safe and okay. In the same conversation, she admitted her anxious state. She disclosed, “You’re proud, of course. But you’re terrified. Watching Tyson fight, it’s never easy. You sit there thinking, ‘Please let him come out okay.’ That’s all that matters.”

Paris Fury has witnessed the former WBC heavyweight champion take a plunge against Francis Ngannou, collect a close decision loss to the current unified champion, and even saw him barely beat the ten count in his fights with Deontay Wilder. She might go through a similar tumultuous emotional state when Fury, at 34-1, fights Usyk, at 22-0, once again in Riyadh. However, this time she expects an upturn in fortunes. But it remains to be seen how the fight pans out and whether the outcome could lead Fury to make a critical decision about his career.
