It has only been a year and eight months since the Australian boxer Skye Nicolson made her professional debut. However, she has already captured and successfully defended the WBC Interim Featherweight title. At this, since the undefeated boxer now looks forward to becoming the next queen of the Featherweight division, Nicolson announced she would like to face Amanda Serrano.

While Skye did not mean to belittle Serrano’s achievements and contribution to the sport, the 28-year-old, by disclosing her strategy, explained how she would defeat ‘The Real Deal’. Well, speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, here is what Skye said.

After a TKO win over Lucy Wildheart, Skye Nicolson, 9-0-0, feels she is ready to test her skills against the current Undisputed Featherweight champion of the world, Amanda Serrano. In her opinion, to prove to the world that she is the best in the division, she must face Serrano and hand the same a defeat. Likewise, Nicolson clarified that when she called ‘The Real Deal’ it was not out of disrespect.

Obviously, I want the Serrano fight. She’s the champion in my division. I want to be [a] world champion. I want to prove to the world that I’m the best and I want to do that by beating the best,” Nicolson said.

Every time I call out Serrano, it’s never because I disrespect her or don’t think she’s good or whatever. I want to fight the best. That’s why I’m calling her out. I want to show my levels. I want to prove that I’m worthy,” explained Nicolson with a smile on her face.

In this context, although Skye felt 90% of the people would be in Serrano’s corner, the Australian boxer reasoned why she believed she could win against Serrano in the ring.

The reason Nicolson feels she can defeat Serrano

According to Nicolson, Serrano is flat-footed which will cost the latter when the duo enters the ring. As per Skye, although Serrano is strong and aggressive, she has slow feet. Likewise, with faith in her ability to create angles, Skye announced she would trap ‘The Real Deal’ with her footwork. “She’s strong. Very aggressive, [and] very strong, but she’s flat-footed. She’s got slow feet and she looks good against someone who stands and trades with her, and that’s not what I would do,” explained Nicolson who was met by Ed Sheeran in her locker room.

I would use angles, I would box and move, I will set traps, I’ll walk her onto shots, I’ll have her walking onto the ropes, and making her look silly,” Skye concluded with confidence. Looks like Serrano has to bother about a new challenge. Anyway, would you like to see the fight? Let us know in the comments.
