Former world champions- Regis Prograis and Mikey Garcia can lock horns soon and it can help to resurrect a clear picture in the super-lightweight or welterweight division.

Both the fighters have returned to the win column from their respective maiden losses, which validates an in-ring scrap between them.

Although it is still a fantasy matchup, Regis Prograis has seemingly passed some lifeline to that idea. Still fresh from his TKO win over Ivan Redkach, ‘Rougarou’ revealed how the fight is currently taking shape.

Speaking with DAZN Boxing, Regis Prograis said, “As far as I am concerned bro, it’s talk right now but it’s a very very serious talk right now.

“So, hopefully, it happens you know but we don’t know yet. I think he had interest because I think a long time ago, it was always interesting to fight me and him actually.”

The 32-year-old further said that he and Garcia share a lot of friends. Hence, it would also be an intriguing contest for their closed ones. However, Prograis claimed that Garcia verbally avoided the offer and replied, “Nah, Imma be torn if we all ever fight.”

Despite such statements, Garcia’s resume doesn’t look like he would hesitate to face Prograis. The 33-year-old has 40 wins and just one loss under the belt.

After losing to Errol Spence Jr. In 2019, Garcia scored a big win over Jessie Vargas last year. So, it’s time for him to return to action shortly. However, it might not be against Regis Prograis.

What’s next For Mikey Garcia?

As of now, the welterweight division would see Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr. compete for the WBC, IBF, and Ring titles. Meanwhile, Yordenis Ugas has the WBA (Super) belt with Terence Crawford holding the WBO one.

That said, Jamal James has the WBA (Regular) strap. So, the title ride may not offer the fight against Crawford, Ugas, and James to Mikey Garcia.

However, these are just a few options and a non-title bout would still remain valid for Garcia’s next possible fight. That said, matchmakers can rightly put Mikey Garcia and Regis Prograis against each other.
