Conor Benn‘s failed drug test controversy still seems a hot topic in the sport. The British welterweight boxer failed his drug test last year ahead of the fight against Chris Eubank Jr, and since then, the whole story has witnessed a lot of twists and turns. Benn was recently cleared of all charges by WBC,  imposed on him  after the failed drug test. And, as Benn was ready to get his career back on track and start training for his next fight. His failed drug test seems to have come across another hiccup. This situation got the attention of Robert Smith, general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control(BBBofC), and he has put up stipulations in front of Benn if he wants to fight in the UK.

But, Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn is not pleased with Smith’s remarks, and in a recent interview, Hearn showed his disagreement about what Smith said and made bold claims about the same.

In an interview with BoxingSocial, Hearn discussed the remarks made by the General Secretary. And he thinks that all of it is planned to ensure Benn doesn’t fight globally. The British promoter has been defensive of Benn and is focusing on providing a return for the former champion.

Hearn said, “Robert Smith’s comments are wild. I mean, this is one of the problems of this whole situation.”

He further went on to draw attention to the rarity of something like this.

Hearn added, “You’ve never seen the board comment publicly to the media.”

The boxing promoter did not stop at that and further went on to make a bold claim about Smith’s remarks. He said, “It’s like a propaganda machine. To talk about having power over other jurisdictions internationally.”

He further added, “Restraint of trade. It’s a dangerous game.”

Hearn further claimed that Smith wants Benn to stop fighting internationally. “Let’s see how that plays out,”  he added.

He further announced his plans for Benn’s return to the ring and said that Conor Benn fights in June.

Ahead of his potential return to the ring, Benn made a bold prediction regarding his fight.

Hearn and Benn have shown their disappointment and are not pleased by the actions being taken by BBOC. Benn even went to the extent of claiming that he will sue BBBofC for millions of dollars for poor handling of his failed drug test case.

It will be interesting to see what happens further in this saga.
