Last night Ryan Garcia made his comeback to the sport with a much-needed win since the loss to Gervonta Davis. Although the crowd booed Garcia for most of the fight against Oscar Duarte, ‘KingRy’ avoided unnecessary risks and fought patiently. However, there were moments when Duarte also landed a few shots on Ryan by penetrating the latter’s defense.

Anyway, Garcia satisfied his fans as he dropped Duarte towards the very end of the 8th round. And soon after ‘KingRy’ had Duarte on his knees, the referee, James Green counted to 10 and stopped the fight. In the wake of this incident, while some questioned the referee’s decision, Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford agreed with Green.

With 30 seconds left in the 8th round, Ryan Garcia, moving out of a corner, hit Oscar Duarte with several vicious hooks to the head. As a result, he fell on his knees and got up only after the referee, James Green had counted nine. At this, while a certain section of the boxing world questioned James’ decision to call it a day, Gervonta Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford firmly supported Green.

Man, great fight, man. It wasn’t a controversy,” said Ford. “I just left Texas. That referee we worked with in Texas will tell you, ‘Get up at 8.’ You don’t get up at 8, he gon’ count you out. I’ve seen the referee. He was counting. He didn’t get up at 8. Because when you get up at 8, you have a chance of him saying, ‘Go here, go here. You alright?’ He got up at 9 and a half. So, that’s what’s gonna happen,” he explained.

Before concluding, Ford wished to see Garcia fight Rolly.

Calvin Ford is excited about Garcia vs. Rolly

Despite 140 lbs being Garcia’s comfort zone, ‘KingRy’ fought Duarte at catchweight, 143 lbs. However, as soon as the bout was over Garcia called out the current WBA Super Lightweight title holder, Rolando Romero for a fight. If Rolly vs. Ryan takes place, the fight would likely occur at 140 lbs since Garcia is committed to becoming a world champion.” In this context, Calvin Ford claimed he already knew that Garcia vs. Rolly was going to take place eventually.
