Mike Tyson has had a very rough life since childhood. The youngest heavyweight champion in history achieved everything in his life through unreasonable hard work and dedication. Very few people have seen the hardship that Tyson lived through. This made it all the more insulting when Hulu produced a miniseries “Mike” in 2022 about his life without his consent. Tyson didn’t hold back in harshly criticizing the show even before its release.

Now that the series is out, Tyson remains deeply dissatisfied with how his life was portrayed. After watching it, he openly condemned the show as false, expressing his frustration with how far it strayed from reality.

On the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast, rapper Cam’ron Giles aka ‘Cam’ron’ asked Tyson about the series. Giles showed visible frustration about the series and declared that if a production house did something like this to him, he would be extremely annoyed. But Tyson answered the question with a mix of humility and anger, making it clear that the creators had completely misrepresented his life.

“It’s the biggest form of flattery right and they made me look too good. I was poor I was a fu***ing sewer system kid. They made me look like I had a nice clean house. My mother was smart and articulate. It was just a joke.” While the 58-year-old was flattered that someone had made a series on him, he was furious about the way his life was portrayed. “It was just really bad,” he continued.

According to Mike Tyson, the show got few things right about his life because of his autobiography. However, Tyson grew up around “house rats and rugs and s**t on the floor” which according to him the producers of the series didn’t get right. “They don’t know my life, man,” he said exasperatedly.

This is not the first time Iron Mike has called out Hulu over the series and he has been vocal about the way he was mistreated by the production house. The whole controversy picked up the heat in 2022 when the 50-6 boxer called out the media house publically.

Mike Tyson’s Hulu controversy

Back in 2022, ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ took to Instagram to share a post boycotting the ‘Mike’ series. He claimed that Hulu “stole my life story and didn’t pay me.” He claimed they didn’t involve him in any way and were simply using his name and likeness to sell a product.

Things did not end there as Tyson further revealed that Hulu had also tried to pay off UFC CEO Dana White to promote the series. But White immediately turned it down because of the respect he holds for Tyson. “I’ll never forget what Hulu stole from me,” were the final words of Mike Tyson regarding the controversy as he was heartbroken over the falsification of his life.

Mike’s showrunner, Karin Gist, replied to the controversy stating that they just wanted to tell an unbiased story. Gist added, “Whether you like him or hate him, does the story make you question how complicit society has been? That was the intention,” but it completely backfired as the show was unable to penetrate the audience as they expected it to. It received a 6.9 rating on IMDb and fans claimed it was an ambitious but unevenly executed series.
