Following his victory over Caleb Plant, in a loud statement, David Benavidez called out Canelo Alvarez. In his opinion, although he had a lot of respect for the Mexican phenom, it was time that Canelo fought Benavidez. However, as rumors have it, Alvarez will potentially square off against Jaime Munguia after victory against Jermell Charlo.

In this context, ahead of his upcoming bout with Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez recently spoke about Alvarez vs. Munguia. Undoubtedly, he was disappointed since he, for long, wanted the undisputed super middleweight champion in the ring. However, ‘Red Flag’ assured the fans that Canelo vs. Munguia would nonetheless be an entertaining bout.

Besides wanting to face Canelo Alvarez, in recent times, Benavidez tried to negotiate with Jaime Munguia. Likewise, knowing Canelo Alvarez will now likely seal a deal with Jaime, ‘Red Flag’ was not happy. As a result, he said, “I mean, to be honest with you, it doesn’t make me happy knowing that he’s gonna take that fight next. But, as I always say, what could I do about it? Canelo does whatever he wants to do.” Along these lines, despite being unhappy, Benavidez predicted a good battle between Canelo and Jaime:

If he’s fighting him on May 5th, that’ll be a good fight. I think it will be a good fight for the people. For the Mexican people. Two Mexicans going at it,” said Benavidez. However, ‘Red Flag’ also reiterated that people won’t be satisfied until Canelo faces Benavidez in the sport.

Benavidez remains hopeful

Earlier Canelo Alvarez claimed that he would never face a fellow Mexican in the ring. Likewise, he disregarded Benavidez’s requests. However, now that Canelo is facing Munguia, ‘Red Flag’ is hopeful he will get his shot against Alvarez.  “I think the fight everybody wants to watch is me vs. Canelo. I don’t think people are going to be satisfied until we get that fight,” Benavidez announced. “So, I just got to keep doing what I’m doing, keep working hard, get to these fights, and we’ll take one step at a time,” he concluded.
