Popular streamer IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., is not a subtle man. He is famous for his over-the-top antics and rarely holds back his words. The Twitch streamer has recently dipped his toes into boxing and even got a chance to spar with former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

However, the sparring session turned out badly for the 19-year-old as PacMan knocked him down with a simple body shot. However, the sparring session and the beatdown made Speed realize how tough and dangerous boxing is. In an interview with NFL veteran Shannon Sharpe, IShowSpeed opened up about the brutal takedown by Pacquiao and ate his own words when he tried to mock Ryan Garcia for his loss against Gervonta Davis.

IShowSpeed on his sparring experience with Manny Pacquiao

The Cincinnati native sat down with the NFL tight end on his weekly podcast ‘Club Shay Shay’ and the first thing that ‘The Shapeshifter’ asked IShowSpeed was about his sparring session with Manny Pacquiao.

The streamer stated that the duo had decided to just target the bodies specifically. According to Watkins Jr., “If it was face and body I could have worked him a little bit.” Sharpe could not believe what Speed was saying and burst out laughing. However, the 19-year-old made it clear that he is not saying I’m oh I’m whooping his ass but I’m giving him some work.”

But the way the sparring session went down a few months ago tells a different story. In his trademark style, Speed barked at Manny Pacquiao before throwing some wild right body shots. The 62-8-2 boxer defended all the shots easily and let out a perfect left hook to Speed’s body that sent him crashing onto the floor to much joy from the onlookers.

The 2011 Pro Football Hall Of Famer was still in disbelief as he proceeded to ask about Pacquiao’s left hook. “When he hit you with the body shot what went through your mind,” asked Sharpe. IShowSpeed stated that he was in too much pain to even think about anything else and had intentionally left himself open because he wanted to feel what a body shot feels like.

Even after experiencing the pain firsthand, Speed tried to mock Ryan Garcia on his knockout loss against Gervonta Davis. However, this time the move backfired on him severely.

Shannon Sharpe shuts Speed down

After hearing about Speed and his knockdown, Sharpe immediately switched the conversation. He said, “So you understand now why Ryan crumbled when Gervonta caught him with a body shot,” reminding the Twitch streamer of the knockout.

Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis faced each other last year in April. Davis won the bout via knockout in the seventh round after a devastating left hook to the body. The same punch that Speed received from PacMan during their sparring.

The 19-year-old was still dismissive of Garcia’s pain and thought that the 26-year-old should have gotten up. “Yeah but you don’t feel it after I don’t know why Ryan didn’t get up to be honest like you like you feel it for like 30 seconds,” stated Speed.

However, Speed made a glaring mistake and Sharpe reminded him instantly and stated“You know you only get to 10.” Sharpe implied that the boxers only got 10 seconds to recover and get back on their feet and according to the 19-year-old himself, the pain remains intact for at least half a minute.

The sudden realization left Speed surprised, and he accepted his mistake, stating, “Oh yeah, you’re right, you’re right, you’re right,” as his move severely backfired on him.

However, IShowSpeed was still adamant that he could match Pacquiao if he got enough days to train for the bout. Considering PacMan just had an exhibition match with Rukiya Anpo earlier this year, we might get this match as well if everything goes right.
