Canelo Alvarez has been gracing his name in the headlines for the past week. He last fought in his hometown, Guadalajara, Mexico against John Ryder. Thereafter, Alvarez was finding it difficult to book his next bout for a significant duration. Subsequently, Alvarez signed a three-fight contract with Premier Boxing Champions. The 32-year-old will square off against Jermell Charlo for his first contest under the new promotion.

Charlo is an undefeated boxer and currently the undisputed light-middleweight champion. Their bout is sanctioned to be in the super-middleweight division. Charlo would be the contender and Alvarez would be the defending champion. It is fair to say that the bout has received scrutiny and ignited various opinions. Going into the bout, Charlo is the betting underdog but Issac Cruz would beg to differ.

Cruz does not necessarily fancy Charlo in the contest but simultaneously does not completely count him out either. As per BoxingScene, Cruz suspects Charlo’s confidence as an indicator. Reflecting on the same, he stated, “I think that if Charlo took on this challenge it is because he knows that he can cause an upset.”

Charlo is an undefeated boxer and is moving up to face one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of this era. His bold move is certainly risky, to say the least. However, his confidence in doing so is an indicator for many including Cruz. That being said, one former female boxing world champion is not a fan of this matchup
