If it turns out to be true, there won’t be a Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk match. Per the several reports circulated across media outlets, the WBC Heavyweight champion could be contemplating a retirement. The rumor seems to have been sparked following his dismal performance against former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The mixed martial artist, making his pro-boxing debut in Riyadh, took ‘The Gypsy King’ the whole distance.

But to add insult to injury, Ngannou not only scored the lonesome knockdown of the match but also convinced the judges to award Fury a win by split decision. Post-fight, Tyson Fury immediately had a face-off with his next opponent, the unified Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Now, in light of the latest update, fans, once again, might have to wait to see an undisputed Heavyweight champion.

The Boxing Kingdom, through its X account, shared that there have been numerous media reports claiming that Tyson Fury is contemplating retirement.

Probably, it could be a grapevine. It might have received an upshot from promoter Frank Warren‘s briefing to Boxing News when he shared that the December 23 Fury-Usyk fight might not occur. The Queensbury head said, “It will go ahead, but it will not be on the 23rd. He is 35 years and has just done a 12-week training camp, and has just been in a tough fight…needs a break with his family; he needs to switch off, and we will announce the date when we are ready. But the fight is signed. The fight will happen. It will happen early in the new year, late January or February. That will be up to Tyson; it is his body…

Is it the final one?

If at all Tyson Fury plans to go on a retirement, it wouldn’t be the first time, however. Last year, a few months after the second successful title defense against Dillian Whyte, Fury announced his retirement. But thankfully, the decision proved to be a short-term one. Though he had to give up The Ring belt on account of the retirement call, by December he was back in the ring to defend his WBC title from Derek Chisora. The fight with Francis Ngannou came after a gap of over ten months.

Despite his confirmation of undergoing a 12-week training camp, Tyson Fury’s performance, in the end, raised far too many questions about his preparedness. However, he is just 35 years old. As he has shown in the past, Fury can bounce back from a setback and prove all the naysayers who have started doubting his caliber wrong. All die-hard fans must be hoping that the hot news is nothing but just some wild chitchat.
