After excelling in the squared circle, Oleksandr Usyk will smash his opponents inside the steel cage. The Ukrainian boxer has joined the cast of ‘The Smashing Machine’ and will star alongside Dwayne Johnson. The announcement has already sent the fans into a frenzy, as the undisputed champion will embody another Ukrainian legend.
Benny Safdie’s upcoming project tells the story of legendary MMA fighter Mark Kerr, brought to the screen alive by ‘The Rock’. A couple of days ago, the project attracted eyeballs as the former WWE star released the movie’s first look. Now, the exciting project has again seized headlines in the boxing world as the newly crowned undisputed heavyweight champion joins the cast as MMA icon, Igor Vovchanchyn.

While ‘The Smashing Machine’ focuses on Kerr’s astronomical rise in the MMA world and tumultuous personal life, it will also bring the carnage of Vovchanchyn, who became the first man to tame Kerr. Notably, Vovchanchyn, who transitioned to MMA from kickboxing, is still known as a pioneer of the sport.
Along with Kerr, Vovchanchyn was considered one of the best heavyweight fighters in the world during the late 1990s. ‘Ice Cold’ is the walking embodiment of brutality, as he competed in early no-holds-barred MMA tournaments, winning nine. Despite retiring in 2005, he continues to hold the second-longest unbeaten streak in MMA, at 37. The Ukrainian legend boats of an illustrious career that spanned a decade in fighting the likes of Mark Coleman, Quinton Jackson, and Alistair Overeem. How ‘The Cat’ brings forth his fellow countrymen on screen is something the fans are excited about.
Fans are eager to watch Usyk on the big screen
One fan speculated when the movie shooting would take place, as it could collide with the Tyson Fury rematch. They also believed that if Usyk lost the match, he would blame it on the commitments outside the ring, like what Lennox Lewis did when he lost to Hasim Rahman. They declared, “This will be his excuse when he loses the rematch just like Lennox used Oceans 11 for losing to Rahman.”
