Errol Spence Jr. has an awesome opportunity to prove the beating he took from Terence Crawford last year was a one-off incident by facing Sebastian Fundora! ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported in May this year that a bout between them is being eyed for October later this year. However, boxing insider Rick Glaser has suggested the fight might not be happening at all!
‘The Towering Inferno’ defeated Tim Tszyu via a split decision in March in one of the bloodiest battles boxing has ever seen to capture the WBC and WBO super welterweight belts. ‘The Truth’ was ringside for the fight and immediately entered the ring afterwards to challenge Fundora for his belts. Yet, Glaser speculates Spence Jr. hasn’t recovered from the Crawford fight and might be retiring. So, the question is—is the fight still happening?

On July 25th, Glaser took to X to declare, “#ErrolSpence is now confirmed to be completely shot, and the fight with #SebastianFundora is not happening at all.” He further fueled speculation by telling a user on X, “I knew Spence was finished when Crawford dismantled him.” Despite these strong statements, PBC has yet to make any official announcement about the fight’s status, leaving many to question its future.
So again I’m correct, #ErrolSpence now confirmed to be totally shot & the fight with #SebastianFundora is not happening at all! Will I be getting apologies from those that said I didn’t know what I was talking about in regards to #Spence being completely shot!!! #Boxing

However, Glaser’s case completely fell apart when, on the same day, Sebastian Fundora spoke about his fight with Spence on his Instagram account. During an Instagram live session, Fundora was asked about the fight getting canceled, to which the West Palm Beach native responded, “Nah, they just changed the date”. It’s worth mentioning that after the Crawford fight, where ‘Bud’ absolutely dismantled Spence, there were talks of Spence’s retirement from the sport.
Not to mention, in a now deleted Instagram post, ‘The Truth’ even revealed he had to go through a cataract surgery, after a retinal tear he suffered in 2021, which led to the Manny Pacquiao fight getting canceled. Despite all that, there’s no official word on the fight’s cancellation. With that out of the way, Terence Crawford has outlined how Spence can get the rematch he so desires.

Terence Crawford is open to rematch with Errol Spence Jr.
Brian Mazique of Forbes reported on July 11th that while Terence Crawford is fully focused on his upcoming bout against Israil Madrimov on August 3rd, he acknowledged that “the possibility is there” for a future matchup against Spence. Initially, Errol Spence had the option to activate a rematch clause against Crawford, but he chose not to pursue it.
Instead, Spence has secured a fight against Fundora, a matchup that Crawford was also interested in. If Crawford defeats Madrimov and Spence triumphs over Fundora, a unification bout between them seems highly likely. “If he wins his fight—God willing—and I win mine, God willing, then there’s a real possibility,” Crawford added.
