In the last two years, Devin Haney has been through daunting showdowns. On April 20, he will fight Ryan Garcia for his first light welterweight title defense. Many believe that it could be the most significant challenge in the nearly decade-long career of the San Francisco-born boxer.
Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, who is also his manager, has a take on the matter. After the infamous fracas at the Super Bowl Radio Row and the frequent exchanges over social media, both Team Haney and Team Garcia will be going through the kick-off press conference in New York later today.

“I mean I mean you know what I’m saying he has he has um a left hook he has a right hand, decent right hand, but more importantly, he has a left hook that can end it on any given, at any moment on any given night, so with that, we take Ryan very serious,” Haney Senior said when FightHype‘s Hans Themistode asked, “Do you expect Ryan to be the toughest fight for your son?”
In the past, including himself, many derided ‘KingRy’ as a mere TikTok or social media star. However, the underlying fact remains that he is a good fighter who wants more for himself. Hence, whatever is said and done, Team Haney is not going to take any chances.
Bill Haney said, “Um, you know i’ I’ve said in other have said you know about him being a TikTok star or social media star, but he’s a real fighter, you know what I mean, and um, I know he’s coming to fight. he’s going to be a hungry fighter. He’s only lost to one man, and um, you know what I mean, so we’re going to be prepared and we’re serious.”
Clearly, very few boxers have taken the journey that Devin Haney took in the recent past. But then Ryan Garcia is no pushover either. He comes from an altogether different playing field.
