Is Leonard Ellerbe Leaving Floyd Mayweather’s Promotion? Boxing Insider Brands PBC a “Sinking Ship” While Bringing Up Recent Rumors

Rick Glaser‘s PBC saga has a fresh update. But this time, the message seems a bit loaded with an additional piece of information. The New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) inductee has been tweeting about the current state of affairs concerning Al Haymon and his PBC for some time now. According to the boxing insider, all is not well with the promotions team.

PBC conducted its first ever show per the new agreement inked with Amazon Prime last December. Al Haymon’s side and the paid subscription giant joined hands following Showtime’s departure from boxing. The PBC-Amazon Prime’s next event takes place at the storied MGM Grand Arena on June 15. The twin main-card event features Gervonta Davis marking his return against Frank Martin. Then David Benavidez will mount his first attempt at the interim light-weight title against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Rick Glaser seemingly believes that the writing on the wall is evident for PBC. But, per his latest message, things aren’t looking for Mayweather Promotions and its CEO either.

Stating that many boxers have already parted ways with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his promotional venture, Mayweather Promotions, the boxing matchmaker said, “All a byproduct of the #AlHaymon & #PBC problems, website http://MayweatherPromotions.com is no longer functional, fighters fleeing Floyd.“

But what he mentioned about Leonard Ellerbe next might be a shocker to many. He said, “Plus, rumors abound #LeonardEllerbe is leaving #Floyd, & as CEO of #MayweatherPromotions, to firmly plant his lips on #TankDavis!That’s right, to #Ellerbe loyalty has its bounds, & Ellerbe’s jumping off that sinking ship! #Boxing.“

As most of the fans are aware, Al Haymon used to officiate as Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s manager. Reportedly, in that capacity, he received the ‘Manager of the Year’ award from the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), not once but five times! The promotions have in the past managed names such as Amir Khan, Deontay Wilder, and Adrien Broner, among many others.

Rick Glaser’s PBC Relay: Still Going Strong

Roughly a week ago, Rick Glaser shared an update on non-PPV shows under the PBC-Amazon Prime deal. He said that fans awaiting non-pay-per-view events might be in for a long haul. Why? According to him, “There’s no way for the cash-strapped PBC to fund it unless a new deep-pocketed investor walks thru that door looking for #AlHaymon to blow up more investor money. That’s the #Haymon way.” He reminded everyone that PBC’s slogan, ‘Free Boxing 4 All’, has been replaced by ‘PPV for everything’. 

Then, early this week, Glaser mentioned receiving an update from a boxing executive.  Sounds grave, right? It was revealed how PBC was barely managing to keep things going. In a desperate situation, they are awaiting help from an investor who will come to their rescue and help them stay afloat. “In truth, PBC is doomed, not long for existence,” the person told the New York-based boxing insider. Earlier, Rick Glaser stated how the person narrated that PBC was ‘fast becoming irrelevant,’ to which he responded back, saying that the promotions was ‘slowly going out of business’.

In one of the recent posts, Rick Glaser shared how, unlike PBC, other promotions such as Top Rank, Golden Boy, and Matchroom were doing exceedingly well. Rick Glaser’s PBC saga is bound to take turns and one will have to remain patient.
