As it turns out, fans will have to wait much longer to see the WBA lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, back in action. The 30-year-old was initially in talks with lightweight legend Vasyl Lomachenko for a fight, but things didn’t play out as Davis would have wanted and the fight fell apart.

Later, in early October, Premier Boxing Championship (PBC) and Davis revealed that ‘Tank’ would fight WBA super featherweight champion, Lamont Roach, on December 14th at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, for Davis’ 130-pound title. However, in late October, things started to change again, as Davis came out and declared that the fight would happen sometime in January.

On Friday, November 29, PBC released another update, announcing a third date for the fight, along with a new location. The PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view event will feature the title defense by Gervonta Davis against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Luckily for Davis, he is no stranger to Barclays.

The undefeated pound-for-pound contender has previously scored three stoppage victories at the venue. As for Roach, he last fought at Barclays all the way back in December 2014 against Alexander Charneco-Vega, winning via unanimous decision. Regardless of their histories at the venue, Davis will be heavily favored.

Roach is climbing to 135 pounds for this specific fight, having barely competed at lightweight at the beginning of his career back in 2014. The same has garnered a lot of criticism from the boxing public, who feel the fight is too easy for Davis. Regardless, this leaves the question, who else is on the undercard of the fight?

Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach undercard

While no official announcement has been made about the fighters on the undercard of Davis vs. Roach, a report from the esteemed journalist Dan Raffel a while back gave a glimpse into who fans can expect to see. Reportedly, the co-feature will see Brandon Figueroa defend his interim featherweight title in a rematch against Stephen Fulton.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Gervonta Davis's constant fight delays affect his performance against Lamont Roach in March?

Have an interesting take?

Figueroa was defeated by a controversial majority decision to Fulton back in November 2023 and has since longed for vengeance. Their first fight was packed with action, and a second fight is expected to showcase the same. Also on the bill, unbeaten Jermall Charlo will continue to reshape his career after he was arrested for a DWI in May.

Per Jake Donovan of Ring Magazine, Charlo will face Thomas LaManna. Another fight on the card that is being talked about is Alberto Puello vs Sandor Martin. Puello was, of course, upgraded to full WBC super lightweight champion after Devin Haney vacated the title. So, The Dominican boxer will defend his title against mandatory Martin.
