The P4P boxing king, Canelo Alvarez, was all set to contend with Caleb Plant for the undisputed super-middleweight title this year. The fight was even in contention to take place on September 18 in a gigantic setting. Unfortunately, yesterday, it was reported that this contest has gone off track.
As this was set to be one of the biggest super-middleweight collisions of 2021, fans seemed ecstatic at the prospect of finding out the greatest active super-middleweight pugilist. Also, this fight would have unquestionably given Plant and Alvarez their biggest paychecks yet.

Recently, Mike Coppinger spilled the beans on the amount that both the fighters would have bagged. He tweeted, “Sources: Canelo Alvarez was set to earn more than $40 million guaranteed. Upward of $10 million for Caleb Plant. Career-high paydays for both fighters. We’ll see if they can quickly circle back to a deal that was nearly completed”

By putting on some exemplary performances in the ring over the past few years, Alvarez has definitely witnessed a surge in his paychecks. Also, with his overall persona and aura, the Mexican boxing star was the undeniable favorite for his bout against Plant.

That said, it was obvious that Saul Alvarez would bank some extensive figures for this contest. However, the fans are still optimistic and they’ve kept their fingers crossed to see the fight talks ignite once again.

Why did Caleb Plant’s fight talks with Canelo Alvarez fall through?
The undefeated boxer spoke to ESPN about why the fight talks broke down. He said, “One that is absurd – If I get injured or sick, he gets a late replacement for the same guaranteed money. But if he gets sick or injured, we gotta wait for him.” (h/t Michael Benson)

‘Sweethands’ Plant seemed unimpressed with these ideas. Consequently, the talks didn’t reach a designated conclusion. It’d be interesting to see whether Plant’s and Canelo’s teams resurrect their talks. That will largely depend on Alvarez taking away certain demands from the table.
