Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has given his honest take on UFC star Conor McGregor. The undefeated star spoke about his recent fight against Dustin Poirier and explained why the Irishman lost to him.

Fury, who is all set to take on Anthony Joshua in a 2-fight deal weighed in on one of the most talked-about topics in combat sports right now. ‘The Gypsy King’ agreed that inactivity led to his downfall. He also explained how it affects a fighter.

Speaking to Gareth A Davies on YouTube, he answered the question regarding the former UFC double-champion. Fury pointed out the duration that McGregor spent out of the sport in between his last 3 fights leading up to the Poirier fight.
He then said, “So inactivity kills the cat. No doubt about it. When one man’s been active and fighting and sparring and in camps, and one man’s been on the couch, it’s no good.” This was the explanation that McGregor himself gave for his defeat.
Moreover, given Tyson Fury’s career, he knows a thing or two about being out of the sport. After his comeback, he has two fights in quick succession before taking on Deontay Wilder. That helped him get up to speed.

Tyson Fury explains how time away from the sport affected Conor McGregor
‘The Gypsy King’ didn’t stop there. He also explained how a break from the sport affects any fighter. He said, “You lose your timing, you lose your distance, you lose it all.” This showed that Fury is talking from the perspective of his experience when he was out of the sport.

Just like Conor McGregor, Fury will head into the Anthony Joshua fight on the back of an 18-month-long hiatus. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the break. However, his comments showed that he respects McGregor as a fighter, and if he can get a few more fights, he could be back.
