Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo will face each other in a matter of few days. When the fight was announced, many fans expressed resentment over the match-up. A substantial section of the boxing world thinks the weight disparity is too significant. However, as the fight draws closer, many fancy the chances of an upset. Just last year, Alvarez was handed his second-year defeat against Dmitry Bivol.
Thereafter, despite being a heavy favorite, his last two fights went to a decision. Subsequently, the fans are wondering if the undisputed super-middleweight champion is on the decline. In a recent turn of events, ‘Saul,’ weighs in on this narrative. Does he agree or disagree? What does he have to say? Let’s take a look.

Canelo’s last fight was against John Ryder in his hometown. Although Ryder is a formidable opponent and his accolades are nothing to scoff at, it bears a mention that many were stunned to see Alvarez not fetching a stoppage. Moreover, his bout prior to that, the Mexican fighter fought his rival, Gennady Golovkin. Both combatants faced one another twice, and the fights were razor close. However, Golovkin at the time was 40 years old.
Needless to say, he was out of his prime and the fans felt Alvarez should have gotten a finish. Importantly, a bout prior to that was a defeat. This left people to believe that Alvarez has not looked the same in his recent fights and might be on a decline. Moreover, the champion himself would assent to that claim. In an interview with Boxing Scene, he stated, “Boxing-wise, I wasn’t 100 percent.”

However, he thinks critics have merit in what they say as they simply look for criticism all the time. In addition, he wishes to prove his critics wrong as he has a lot left in him and plans on doing so in his next fight against Charlo. Reflecting on the same, he adds, “But critics are always looking for something, aren’t they? And obviously, I agree with them, that I haven’t looked the last few fights like I used to. And I don’t want to just give a rebuttal. I’d prefer to show them. And in this fight, you are going to see the difference.”
It is safe to say that Alvarez is his own critic and although he agrees with them; he plans on proving them wrong at the same. His confidence only adds fuel to the fire which makes the bout more interesting. With days left, we ask you, what are your predictions for this fight?
