Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez faced the most devastating defeat in his career after succumbing to Dmitry Bivol back in May. Since then, Alvarez has only fought once beating Gennady Golovkin in their trilogy bout but will not be fully satisfied until he faces Bivol in the rematch.

Although the Mexican star has been wanting a rematch with the WBA light-heavyweight champion, it won’t be taken until late 2023. However, Matchroom CEO and Alvarez’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed how he plans to make Alvarez compete once before facing the Russian later. In an interview with ID boxing, the British promoter revealed that he plans to make the Bivol fight in September. Until then, he claimed that Alvarez could face Josh Ryder in May if the latter won his upcoming interim title bout.

They’re talking about making the Bivol fight for September and we’re looking at other options for May. Obviously, he’s (Alvarez) coming off the surgery, so it’s the level of the fight he has. If John Ryder comes through on Saturday night, maybe he gets the fight against Canelo Alvarez in May. So more conversations to be had but we’ve got to plan the year for Dmitry Bivol Canelo and all these guys, ” he said.

Alvarez is currently injured and in recovery following surgery after the Golovkin fight. However, he will be looking to get back in the ring as soon as possible and take revenge for what is only the second loss in his career.

Zach Parker thinks Canelo Alvarez can now be beaten

The man Ryder will face this week for the interim title is none other than Zach Parker. Moreover, he is confident that he can get the job done not only against Ryder but Alvarez as well. In an interview with BBC sport, Parker claimed that only a style change could beat the undisputed champion. He also stated that Alvarez had already lost to Bivol and only won against an aging Golovkin.

“You just need the right style against him. You need to be big enough and have power to keep him off you. He’s on a downward spiral at the minute. I think he’s there to be beat. He lost to Bivol and he didn’t look amazing against an old Golovkin.”

According to Parker, Alvarez is past his prime and is not invincible anymore. However, he is currently the undisputed super-middleweight champion and one of the best boxers of our generation. This certainly adds weight to his name, even though his last few performances were not quite up to his standards.
