For sure, many of the fans must have kept their fingers crossed. But sadly, it proved to be of no avail. The July 20 match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson has been axed. Concerns over the latter’s health, especially following the ulcer flare-up he experienced during a flight from Miami a few days ago, appear to be the primary reason behind the decision. From the beginning, there were several concerns about how the fight would fare for soon-to-be 58-year-old ‘Iron’ Mike. More so, he left professional boxing 20 years ago! But the former heavyweight champion and Jake Paul pressed on.

The latest medical alarm brought to light the potential health risks the boxing fight could pose to the living legend. Both Paul and Tyson initially assured fans that the match would go on. However, it appears that during a subsequent consultation, the doctors told Tyson not to exert himself while training for the next couple of weeks. The fight would take place, reportedly, at a later date. Jake Paul and his team would confirm the details by the first week of June. Apologizing for the setback that has befallen, Mike Tyson released a statement. While he assured fans, what he added later could be of concern to ‘The Problem Child’.

The youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history thanked fans from across the globe for their continued support. He said, “Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.” He added that, on the whole, physically, he has been in great form. When compared to how he used to be during the years following his prime, he has never felt so good, Tyson asserted.

Hence, he expected a swift return to his well-known, grueling training schedule. But, aside from the fans, ‘Iron’ Mike had something for his young opponent as well. He told Jake Paul that the fight cancelation might have brought a much-needed breather to the Ohioan. However, it is not going to change how the clash will eventually end, he insisted.

But in the end, you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good,” said the former heavyweight champion. Finally concluding, “I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.

On his part, ‘The Problem Child’ and his team also issued a statement. He expressed his support for the match postponement and launched a riposte to Mike Tyson’s warning. He said that the extended time would no longer help the former heavyweight champion with any excuses. “My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake—when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish,” said the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson’s health emergency saw some prominent names suggesting the fight cancelation. A fight between the boxing great, who is nearing 60, and Jake Paul, who is nearly 30 years his junior, is not a good match-up, they argued. More so, the former, though he fought an exhibition four years ago, has barely been active in the ring. ‘The Problem Child’ especially came under fire. He received heavy criticism for going against opponents who were not only older but also had diminished skill value.

Do you think, when the match finally comes up, ‘Iron’ Mike will finally be able to deliver and oust Jake Paul for good?
