Tyson Fury‘s dream of taking his lineal championship to the undisputed title may perhaps remain unfulfilled. Now, a former WBC heavyweight champion, ‘The Gypsy King’, in a showdown broadcast live across the world, suffered his first professional defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Despite the ninth-round knockdown and the split decision loss at the Kingdom Arena, the Mancunian reportedly refuses to accept the reversal.

Especially his introspections during the post-fight in-ring interview have come under heavy scrutiny. With suggestive remarks, Tyson Fury seemingly pins his hopes on the rematch. However, it was a rather run-on-the-mill utterance of ‘The Gypsy King’  that seemingly caught the fancy of many. As clips of Fury’s ostensible fiasco started doing the rounds on social media, it didn’t take long for some of the followers to suggest how Usyk’s beatdown before the championship rounds might have led the former champion to pass such remarks.

Happy New Year!” Shouted ‘The Gypsy King,’ during the post-fight interview with team members spread across the ring. Sharing his views on the loss, he posited, “I believe I won that fight. I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them. We both put on a good fight. His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war. Make no mistake; I won that fight, in my opinion.

But it didn’t take long before a few attentive twitterati caught the purported faux pas. One said, “#FuryUsyk: “Happy New Year!” Tyson Fury says in May.” While the other tweet read, “Tyson Fury just wished Usyk a happy new year in his post-fight interview that man’s brain is FRIED.

The closest the undisputed battle between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk came to an early stoppage was during the ninth round. Fury tried to find his footing during the first few rounds. However, his excellent jabs and smart body shots soon came in handy. By the middle rounds, he was in control of the fight. However, tables turned when a fast-paced action from the Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist saw Fury clinging to the ropes.

The Big Picture

Probably that’s why many users connected the dots. They found an easy connection between the mid-of-year ‘New Year’ wish and today’s knockdown.

For instance, this user, to all appearances, took a dig. They mentioned how the heavy shots from Usyk forced Fury to lose his sense of time.

Then this user stated that probably due to the concussion, the Mancunian went back to the December 23rd ‘The Day of Reckoning’ card, the initially scheduled date for the Usyk fight.

Then lamenting how Fury’s statements after the fight disappointed, this follower seems to believe Usyk’s heavy hitting in the ninth round must have caused the impulsive rants.

The next user echoed similar thoughts. According to them, the reason behind Tyson Fury sounding confused about the year could be the concussion following the ninth-round knockdown.

However, the most enigmatic post belonged to this user, who posited that perhaps Francis Ngannou precipitated Fury’s decline.

It would be challenging to ascertain the reason behind ‘The Gypsy King’ wishing  ‘Happy New Year’ to everyone in May! Nevertheless, the fact remains that all eyes will be on the rematch to see whether he can return the favor to ‘The Cat’ or not.

Thankfully, bell saved Tyson Fury. Otherwise, it seemed doubtful whether he would have beaten the referee’s count. In the end, both boxers established why they are the finest in the business. It is probably the first fight of such monumental significance and legacy since the 2015 Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao clash. However, unlike the ‘Fight of the Century’, the ‘Ring of Fire’ seems to have lived up to its hype, delivering to the audience and millions of fans the best boxing can offer.
