Jake Paul seems to believe he has taken over as the new face of boxing—and why? According to him, it’s because the real face of boxing, Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, has refused to fight him. This apparent rejection hasn’t sat well with ‘The Problem Child’, who took to social media to lash out at Alvarez. Paul didn’t just criticize Canelo’s alleged refusal—he went as far as questioning his Mexicanness and trashing his contributions to the sport.
“Breaking news: Canelo Alvarez ducked me, Jake Paul, and is now an owned slave with no regard for the pride of the Mexican people who support him on US soil. it’s not surprising when his whole career he has done nothing for the sport of boxing outside the ring. I’m the new face of boxing. You cannot have the biggest fight of 2025 without my name involved. When all of your events tank and lose money you will all realize who the king of the sport is. 28 years old. Biggest fight in boxing history. My own boss. Not owned. 5 years in. All of you felines want to see me fail, but God has other plans. It’s the era of good. The era of the elephant. It’s the era of MVP,” Paul wrote along with an edited picture of ‘Canelo’ kneeling in front of him in the ring.

But why did Paul go on such a vile rant against ‘Canelo’ out of nowhere? Well, it wasn’t actually out of the blue. In fact, Paul and ‘Canelo’ were in advanced negotiations to finalize a boxing match. This makes sense. After all, ‘The Problem Child’ would be relatively easy work for the Mexican champion Alvarez despite his size. And he would have made a lot of money, perhaps even the most he has ever made, by fighting the younger Paul brother.

This is why the announcement that Alvarez is out has come as a surprise to the whole boxing world. Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who is close to the Mexican had told ‘Boxing News’ just yesterday that he felt that the fight was close to being done. However, Alvarez seems to have used Paul as a negotiating tactic to secure a deal to fight a much more worthy opponent.
‘Canelo’ Alvarez signs blockbuster deal with Riyadh Season for Terence Crawford fight
Canelo Alvarez had also been in talks to fight WBO super welterweight Terence Crawford in a super-fight in Saudi Arabia for the past few months. However, earlier this week, reports emerged that the negotiation for the Crawford fight was off. This came as quite a blow to the fans. After all, ‘Bud’ is ranked #2 in the boxing pound-for-pound list. Moreover, he is considered the best fighter in the lower-weight classes.

But late Thursday night, there was another twist in the tale as Alvarez formally signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season- which comes under the Saudi Arabian government’s General Entertainment Authority. According to a report by ‘Yahoo Sports’, ‘Canelo’ will fight an as-of-yet undecided fighter in May 2025 in Riyadh.

This will be followed by the long-awaited clash between Alvarez and Terence Crawford in September 2025. And it seems Jake Paul, like most of the boxing world, was blindsided by this. ‘Canelo’ probably even used the specter of a Paul fight to secure a better deal for himself with Riyadh Season. No wonder ‘The Problem Child’ is lashing out. What do you think about Jake Paul’s ramblings against ‘Canelo’ Alvarez?
