Rolando Romero was all set to confront ‘Tank’ Gervonta Davis on December 5. Unfortunately, because of a few allegations against him, Romero had to withdraw from this fight. With this, Romero has even lost a chance to bag the WBA lightweight ‘regular’ strap. However, the young gun is eager to get back into action soon.

Recently, ‘Rolly’, who was in a chat with Fight Hub TV, spoke about getting into his boxing element next year. He said, “That was the original opponent he was supposed to get, So I’m the one to activate the mandatory. So it’s not much different.”

“I’m still the mandatory. I’m still the mandatory so they got to make the fight happen, regardless.”

‘Rolly’ had the WBA interim lightweight strap under his wing until this year. However, as the WBA decided to scrap the interim belts across all the weight classes, Romero lost his gold. Despite losing the belt, he was Davis’ mandatory.

Fans were excited to see the unbeaten Davis and Romero collide; as with their aggressive fight styles, it would have been a treat to watch. However, Cruz will replace ‘Rolly’ on the same date. While the replacement is in place and the fight is on, many will be curious about Rolando Romero’s return date.

For now, there’s no tentative date on Romero’s comeback to the ring. But in the above video, he seemed confident about getting back to action by spring 2022.

Romero is in the early stages of his career, and the young force rightly wants to move ahead by adding constant wins and belts to his name. As mandatory, the next shot is rightfully his and his fans will wait eagerly for him to return.
