Canelo Alvarez just came off a win over John Ryder, and the Mexican boxer once again showed the world why he’s still the pound-for-pound king. Recently, Alvarez called out Gervonta Davis for proclaiming himself to be the ‘face of boxing’. The 32-year-old boxer stated that while he is still in the game, Tank does not deserve the aforementioned accolade. And this entire drama elicited a response from renowned boxer Claressa Shields
Shields had to jump into the conversation about who represents the sport of boxing. She firmly believes that she has accomplished enough in the sport to be worthy of being called the ‘face of boxing’.

Currently, the ‘GWOAT’ is in the training camp for her rematch against Hanna Gabriels next month. So in a recent interview, taken during her training session, at her Florida gym, she talked about her upcoming bout and also shed some light on her personal beliefs about being the representative of the sport.
The Michigan native talked about how she has already proven her might after defeating Savannah Marshall in her previous fight. After that, she emphasized, “If I was a man, I’d be the face of boxing. I’ve got more accomplishments than everybody.”
Shields further stated that women’s boxing is not even taken into consideration in the ‘face of boxing’ debates. But, she remains focused on doing her part as far as the hard work is concerned. “I’m just gonna keep continuing to build myself and let the world accept me and women’s boxing,” she declared.
Then she ended the conversation by adding how her upcoming fight is really important for her, and she would be showing the best version of herself to Gabriel on the fight night.

Claressa Shields is looking to face Hanna Gabriels once again in a rematch on June 3rd in Detroit. They will be fighting against each other in a 10-round bout. The rivalry between Shields and her old nemesis, Hanna Gabriels, started back in 2018, as the ‘GWOAT’ gave Gabriels the second loss of her career by a unanimous decision.
Interestingly, Gabriels handed over the first knockdown of Shields’ entire professional as well as amateur career, and that too in the first round of the bout. But now Gabriels wants to settle the score with this rematch, while Shields is looking for another emphatic victory against the Costa Rican boxer. Moreover, Shields will have an extra burden on her shoulder as she would be defending her undisputed middleweight title at Little Caesars Arena.
