Can Curmel Moton live up to Floyd Mayweather's legacy in his rematch against John Gotti III?

For an eighteen-year-old prospect, Curmel Moton is riding high. As he prepares for his third fight of the year, the excitement is amplified by the fact that he will feature on the undercard of his mentor and guide, Floyd Mayweather Jr., on Saturday, August 24. The event in Mexico City is particularly special for the Salt Lake City-born prodigy.

Needless to say, he shared his thrill and excitement at joining the Mayweather Jr. show. The young boxer, who made his professional debut on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo card last year, soon received a pat on the back for his accomplishments at such a young age. Additionally, he received some encouragement—many more such glorious opportunities would come his way on the path to boxing glory. After their last meeting ended in an ugly brawl at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Floyd Mayweather will face John Gotti III for the second time.

Curmel Moton, it seems, finds the whole situation—competing on a Mayweather Jr. card—to be simply unbelievable. He said, “Went from idolizing and watching Floyd my whole childhood to now being the opening bout to the PPV portion of his undercard.” Thankfully, the message caught Richardson Hitchins‘ attention.

Calling out Curmel Moton, ‘lil bro’, ‘The Clinchman’ expressed his excitement at the opportunity the young boxer had received. However, he added that the road doesn’t end for the 18-year-old there. Many more such significant incidents are about to happen in his life, stressed Hitchins. The Brooklyn-born boxer of Haitian heritage believes that Curmel Moton is ‘special’ and is about to achieve his dreams. So he encouraged Moton to go through the experience and enjoy every moment of this journey.

Curmel Moton responded back with a cross-finger emoji, expressing hope that whatever Richardson Hitchins said in the inspirational message would come true. Hitchins himself faced a momentous episode this year when he headlined a fight early in April. He faced Argentine Gustavo Daniel Lemos of the IBF light welterweight title eliminator. The Hitchins won the fight unanimously.

The young prodigy’s last fight occurred at Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal‘s boxing match on July 6. He faced Nikolai Buzolin. The fight ended with a second-round knockout win for Moton. Reportedly, the bout came at short notice, and during the weigh-ins, he stood at around 135 pounds. He opened the year with a fight against Anthony Cuba on the Tim TszyuSebastian Fundora card. To date, it remains the only contest where Curmel Moton walked the whole distance.

He’s destined to be great; remember, I told you that….He’s born ready. See, when you’re born ready, you don’t need to get ready.
