In the latest episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, investor and entrepreneur Grant Cardone opened up about the challenges he faced growing up without his father. According to Cardone, who today runs a $4 Billion empire, his family struggled with poverty following his father’s unfortunate death. Besides worrying about the daily bread, Cardone strongly felt the absence of a role model in his life.

As per the 65-year-old, with none to guide him, he soon took refuge in drugs. As expected, the use of drugs took a toll on him for which he had to soon undergo treatment. While Cardone explained how his treatment rescued him, Mike Tyson expressed a startling truth about his imprisonment.

With Mike Tyson by his side, Grant Cardone recounted meeting “Danny, the drug dealer” at the young age of fifteen. While he wished his dad would come back and remove the absence of “a strong man” in his life, Danny promised to be Cardone’s “daddy” and provided the real estate mogul with drugs. According to the 65-year-old, within 12 months of meeting Danny, Cardone became a drug addict. In the interview, the renowned entrepreneur revealed how three of his friends died by using drugs and getting into fights.

I had three friends, that got killed. I went to treatment when I was 25. By the time I got out of treatment, two of my buddies had been killed while I was gone,” said Cardone.

While he was sad that he lost his friends, Cardone explained he would be dead too had he not gone to treatment. “Had I not gone, I’d be dead today,” he added.

Tyson considers his imprisonment a gift

While Cardone valued his treatment and going away, Mike Tyson confessed that he felt the same way about his imprisonment. In his opinion, had he not been in prison in 1992, he would have ended up dead too.  “I’m thinking the same [way] with me going to prison. All my friends died,” told the former heavyweight champion of the world. Given Tyson’s statement, when Cardone branded the former’s imprisonment “a gift,” Tyson remarked, “I agree.

Luckily, both Cardone and Tyson overcame their addiction in time and focused on life. Given where they are today, it is safe to state that both the figures learned from their mistakes.
