Derek Chisora finally did it. Barring the lonesome win over the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, the British boxer strolled through a streak of defeats during the last three years. Starting with the loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2020, he faced two back-to-back reversals against the Australian Joseph Parker the following year. Tyson Fury knocked him out at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium a year later. With Saturday night’s win, fans might see more of ‘Del Boy War.’ But for how long? The boxer clarified the matter during a conversation with the media.

Tyson Fury returned from a short-term retirement to defend his WBC title on December 3. Derek Chisora stood at the opposite corner, having incidentally suffered his first career loss to ‘The Gyspy King’ in 2011. Three years later, the duo met for a rematch. The outcome proved disastrous, and he had to be pulled out of the bout in the tenth round. The trilogy match barely rang a different bell. Completely outclassed, the fight again ended in a tenth-round defeat for Chisora.

A retirement? – Not yet, says Derek Chisora

Eight months later, Harare, Zimbabwe-born’ Del Boy War’ faced the American Heavyweight at the O2 Arena on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua–Robert Helenius fight. The ten-round bout ended with a unanimous victory for the Briton, who suffered a fierce cut on the right eye. So fresh after the triumph, he was speaking to iFL TV. Kugan Cassius asked, “Now, what’s the plan for David Chisora [now]?”

Confirming that he hasn’t made any retirement plans, ‘Del Boy War’ said, “No, no, no, I’am not stopping, ‘f**k off, not yet, not yet… it’s not time yet.” He explained how much he wanted to do for his family. Then, getting down to details, he said, “I’m a fighter, bro. I’ll be honest with you; I’ve got three more fights, then I’m out. I want to get to 50.”

So, for the time being, fans can look forward to the never-give-up spirit of Derek Chisora. Currently, the record stands at forty-seven fights, of which thirty-four he won and the remaining thirteen he lost. Twenty-three of his wins came by way of knockouts. Given his age, how he plans out the next few fights regarding money and legacy remains to be seen. He has yet to win a world title in his seventeen-year-old career.
