On the undercard of Keith Thurman vs. Tim Tszyu, Rolando Romero will defend his WBA Super-Lightweight title against Isaac Cruz at Al Haymon’s PBC event. Initially, Rolly Romero wanted to fight Ryan Garcia from Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. However, a deal did not come to fruition and Rolly moved on to ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. Afterward, Romero claimed that a potential Garcia vs. Rolly succumbed to the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya‘s lack of enthusiasm.
In this context, De La Hoya has finally broken his silence on Rolly’s claim. Besides defending himself, the 51-year-old reminded Romero that he wasn’t the enemy. In doing so, he also claimed he would beat up Rolly easily. Here is what De La Hoya said.

In his latest interview with Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya cited Al Haymon as the main reason why Rolly vs. Garcia could not take place. According to De La Hoya, since Haymon, who works with Rolly, preferred Isaac Cruz over ‘KingRy’, Romero is now facing ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. Likewise, De La Hoya said, “I’ve worked with Bob Arum, I’ve worked with Eddie Hearn, I’ve worked with Sampson. But for some reason, working with Al Haymon is impossible.”

Provided Romero believed De La Hoya never wanted Garcia vs. Rolly, the 51-year-old replied, “Rolly is saying, ‘F**k Golden Boy. This and that’. Relax dude, the fight is not against me. I’m trying to get you the most money possible.” Along these lines, Oscar claimed that he loved Rolly since he was “genuinely funny.” “I think deep down inside he’s a nice kid. But, you don’t disrespect,” he also added.

However, given the disrespect, De La Hoya jokingly said he would beat up Rolly if the two were to fight in the ring. “It’s all good. You’re not fighting me. If I fought you, I would’ve knocked your a** out easy. But, you’re not fighting me. Just keep it cool,” concluded De La Hoya. With that said, it is worth mentioning that Rolly Romero will return to the ring on March 30th. He is currently 15-1-0. The only loss he suffered was against Gervonta Davis in 2022. On the other hand, Isaac Cruz is 25-2-1. And he has formerly remained a unified Lightweight champion in the sport. Anyway, Oscar’s reply to Rolly? Let us know in the comments below.
