If you belive that Laila Ali, the former two-weight division world champ, widely regarded as one of the greatest female fighters took to boxing because her father was the greatest heavyweight champion ever then you are living with the wrong notion. Her story of pursuing the sport is totally different. Though she agrees boxing was in her veins, she never got support from her father, who himself built his stature in the ring.

It is in the latter part of her career when she became world champ following bulk of hardships that transformed her father’s thought process. Despite being a revolutionary figure out of the ring, the latter was the kind of man who believed that boxing was not for females. This is the reason he never englightened his daughter with the thought that she could ever try to become a professional fighter.

She continued, “Turn on the TV watching Mike Tyson like I didn’t even know it existed. That was amazing. I was kind of pissed off how do I not know this yeah.”

She was always a fighter and the thought of pursuing boxing professionally was ignited for the first time following this incident.
