Just after his latest win over Montiel, Jermall Charlo issued a massive call out. The 31-year-old still has his sight on the biggest fights of the division and seems to have taken a step closer to those bouts. He doesn’t seem interested in quitting the middleweight division so soon. Hence, ‘Hitman’ has claimed that he is looking for unification battles next.
That said, Charlo appeared quite clear with his future intentions. 32-0 as a professional boxer, the WBC middleweight titlist has expressed his desire to face Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez. Although Demetrius Andrade can also be a valid option, Charlo specified the names from his wish list.
In the post-fight interview, the champion said, “160 is my weight division. I want to unify. I want to get Golovkin in the ring. I want to get Canelo out here to Houston.”

All these comments may bring a lifeline to some of the biggest matchups at 160 and 168. However, Canelo Alvarez remains out of Charlo’s fighting radar. The P4P king has moved to the 168 lbs division, and already has the WBO WBA, WBC, and Ring titles over there. Alvarez is now aiming to unify the 168 lbs division by going up against IBF champion Caleb Plant.
Thus, Jermall Charlo would either have to make 168 lbs or wait for Alvarez to come down to 160 lbs. However, as Gennady Golovkin is a champion at the middleweight division, we can see him compete against ‘Hitman’ in a lucrative showdown.

‘GGG’, who had his last win against Kamil Szeremeta in December 2020, is now out of a relevant contender. Meanwhile, his IBF championship stature would demand sheer activity from the Kazakh legend. As Charlo has also retained his WBC title, a unification scrap between the two would allure the entire combat universe.

There’s no way Gennady Golovkin would avoid the fight at this stage. Furthermore, Jermall Charlo would also have a legendary name in his resume, if he steps up against Golovkin. Hence, this is the fight to book. However, in boxing, there is a lot of negotiation, contract works, and mandatory challengers to deal with.
