Amanda Serrano was inspired to take up boxing by her elder sister, Cindy Serrano, who is also a professional boxer. Initially, Cindy was against her younger sister joining this brutal sport. To discourage her, Cindy made a young Amanda box a boy for the first time. Amanda burst into tears as she left the gym but continued to return every day, determined to improve her boxing skills. That once-timid Amanda is now one of the most celebrated female boxers in the sport’s history. She is now releasing a children’s book detailing her experiences and journey in learning to box.
‘The Real Deal’ has engaged in 49 professional fights since making her debut in 2009. Remarkably, in November, she will push her record to the 50-fight mark against Katie Taylor. Ahead of that, she is adding another feather to her cap by listing herself as an author.
The Puerto Rican boxer took to her X account and wrote, “Hey guys my journey in this game has been long. I’m finally where I could have only dreamt of being. I wrote a children’s book in Bilingual It’s about my inspiration introduction into boxing. Of course my sister Cindy started in boxing and being her #1 fan I got caught up in it.”

Serrano mentioned that she would donate some editions to the school where she and her sister studied. In addition, she will donate copies to several other schools in Puerto Rico. She feels blessed to give back to society and help empower others. The unified featherweight world champion further added, “I’m blessed enough now enough to know that at one time I could have used a little encouragement myself. It never came so I want to be there for others.”

The Serrano sisters grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Cindy used to wake up early for school, and Amanda would sneakily wake up to observe her older sister. Reflecting on her childhood, Amanda said, “I would just watch her. And I guess that made me who I am like I wanted to be like her. I wanted to.” That was the beginning of the boxing sensation’s quest for glory.
